SpuA comparison between Valve and Blizzard's development teams really shows how fucking awful Valve is at developing a game they want to eventually make "competitive". Valve hasn't put any money into tournaments for the 9 years the game has been out, updates the game once or twice a year, only one for every three updates actually has in-game impact - the rest are just money farming updates. Meanwhile, Blizzard is developing the game as a competitive game by giving it constant attention - updates every month or two, no micro transactions between players, no in game economy, PTR to test future updates, constant communication between devs and the community.

tl;dr valve needs to rent out the overwatch developers for a few months

I don't think the two companies can be compared this way. Blizzard made a brand new game that was going to get massive viewership regardless of the attention they gave it at the start. Even No Man's Sky got a lot of viewership the first week or so. Blizzard is just riding the wave they knew they'd make with a brand new, genre-breaking FPS game. Valve don't "want" anything for TF2. They don't want to "eventually make [it] competitive," in the sense that they're going to put effort in to push people to play it. Until the game can self-sustain and perform on its own, Valve will not put any money into the game, and will simply continue "balancing" items that shouldn't have been in the game from the start every few months. They want money, and currently, investing any money into the game at its current viewership level is an investment they won't make. I'm almost positive Valve is under the impression that "if something happens, we'll support it, otherwise we don't really care," aside from balancing the game every now and then as per what their job title entails.

Everyone can ride the "fuck Valve" wave, but at a certain point you have to admit that the cards we've been dealt are very unfavorable to competitive. If you wanted to blame Valve, you'd have to go years back to when a real impact could have been made, when the eSports forecast changed completely. At this point, what can they really do? Look at the game, dude. Look at the items and maps that are completely irrelevant to any semblance of competitiveness. The only thing they could have done differently was to force a certain play-style and ruleset onto pubbers and hope they comply and enjoy the game. Choosing organic growth instead, there's really not much you can hope to see in the immediate future for this game.

AlmieSome people here are fucking delusional. A community doesn't have to be 100% toxic players, if there is a vocal enough toxic minority, the community is perceived as toxic. And looking at this whole thread several times mentioning how sigafoo is retarded and attacking him for saying he likes highlander and saying that the 6s community is toxic (which it IS), you are only proving how toxic this community is.

He basically agreed that there should be one competitive format and that it should be 6s, or some form of it. Even though he is a highlander player. And yes there is a stigma against 6s from pubbers and HL players, guess why. No, it's not because "HL players are unfairly toxic towards 6s" (LOL), it's because 6s players are toxic towards everyone else. Just look at every time HL is mentioned on this forum and there goes a "lol highlander" response with 50 +frags, every time some newbie posts a pub related video he gets told to go back to r/tf2.

The point is, what sigafoo said about how it's the community's fault for the scene not growing as much as it could is true and the overly defensive reactions in this thread only prove it imo. If you look at it from Valve's perspective, I wouldn't put money into comp tf2 at this stage either.

shocking that you would use the term delusional then follow it up with with what could only be sheer delusion. there will literally always be toxic players in any game and it's your choice if you'd like to focus on only the negatives and toxicity, which in this case is the not even very vocal minority. I don't know which metrics you're using, other than this thread, to measure how "toxic" the community is, but using an indoctrinated meme like "lol hl" as anything other than what it is, a comment used to farm +frags, is fishing. nevertheless, if you choose to look past all the good things this community does that you would be hard-pressed to find in any other community this size, and instead focus on the average TFTV 6s player's opinion on highlander, you've literally destined yourself to blanket the community as toxic. most people take the newbie mixes, esea payment threads, and the like for granted because if they don't use the facilities, they're irrelevant to their tf2 experience. however, a community isn't toxic because there are a few comments that personally upset you, because you aren't the center of the universe, and there are probably far more people affected positively by this community than negatively.

the last paragraph is just so triggering i can't even properly respond so i'm only going to tell you that I envy that kind of ignorance, as this topic of "why valve doesn't support tf2" has been discussed so much on this forum that if you're still confused as to why, and blame it on THE COMMUNITY and potentially its toxicity, then you've chosen to be stubborn and there's nothing anyone can to do change your mind

#12 A few questions about null-movement scripts in Q/A Help

it took today's top players years, toiling away in private servers, just to make sure they took their fingers off of a before hitting d. show them what's what by using your very own null-movement script today!

let's be honest, you don't have time to waste. in today's TF2, there are all these weapons with different, steep learning curves that need your attention, and you can't be wasting time working on wasd. you have to take your finger off off of one key before hitting the opposite direction? let's be serious! be a forward-thinker, climb to invite in mere months, and laugh at your competition as they stumble over themselves, with the null movement script

#8 shade hints #froyosplyce? in TF2 General Discussion

Okay, it was slightly funny at first, but I've had enough of this. I asked banny if I could have a spot for freemium, and that's literally all there is. I have no affiliation with froyotech whatsoever, other than having a spot on the ESEA roster. Splyce.gg is different from their pro team, and acts as a news/current events site that has always had this information available. I am entirely and utterly uninterested in playing TF2, especially in its current form. To make things as clear as I can: I play Overwatch professionally for Splyce, and I am not playing competitive TF2 now, soon, later, or potentially ever again. Thank you for reading.

#31 Slin talks whitelist, atomizer and base jumper ban in TF2 General Discussion

The beggar's bazooka is a fantastic sidegrade to the rocket launcher, in which all consistency and skill is taken away from the soldier's primary. We should test this weapon to see if it's a good addition to 6s gameplay.

With the rate at which they're moving, definitely. If they're going to continue nerfing/buffing items at random, be prepared to still have a dozen broken or stupid items in the game by i61. If that's the rate you accept for the game, then it will absolutely never move forward. The goal should have been to make enormous changes to items, complete revamps to make items fit comfortably into 6s gameplay, and buffs/nerfs to items currently relevant in 6s gameplay, when matchmaking went live. That's what beta should have allowed. If they were willing to make actual strides toward improvement instead of crawling, this debacle wouldn't exist.

#22 Slin talks whitelist, atomizer and base jumper ban in TF2 General Discussion

Comparing the decision to ban weapons in TF2 to Dota 2 is so absolutely ridiculously triggering. Vilifying people in this game for not wanting to play with weapons like the sandman, crit-a-cola, parachute, and laser rocket launcher implies no one has a good reason to avoid playing with them. Instead, there are copious reasons not to play with any of them, because they're added haphazardly to the game with no testing pre-release and rarely any updates/fixing post-release. When the Sandman was FIRST RELEASED, the entire community fucking hated it. It was stronger back then and would stun from any distance, instead of "slowing" your model (aka stunning lol) like it does today. They slowly changed it to what it is today, but the changes had no noticeable effect on the weapon's reputation, because any stun in this game is a bad idea and will never be endorsed. The only thing Valve can do to the sandman, other than changing its entire purpose, is removing it from the game. Anyone could delve into at least a dozen of the items in this game and parrot the same shit.

The standards to which this community is held, compared to Valve, is such a ridiculous, lop-sided juxtaposition. Apparently, Valve can throw items into this game as nonchalantly as a drunk person playing darts, but these items must be taken seriously and tested before banning them. ??? Do you earnestly believe that the community needs to demonstrate the imbalance of these weapons for Valve? They're game designers... All they have to do is READ THE DESCRIPTION that they themselves have added to each item to determine its place in the game. These items were added not erroneously, but without care for 6s. They added them thinking they'd be a fun addition to their chaotic, 24-man arena-style FPS game. That's it. Valve knows the majority of the weapons in the game could use changing, and the minority could use complete removal. But they've dug themselves a hole only THEY can dig themselves out of.

Another thing - comparing TF2 items to Dota or CS items, both of which cost money and have an effect on the economy of the team is stupid. The closest comparison one could make is to the CS revolver, because of its nearly non-existent cost; you could buy it every life without fail, because even the lowest loss bonus is more than the price of the weapon. What happened to that weapon? Banned from all competition the night of its release, then subsequently nerfed by Valve, because they actually care about the game and do not need a month's worth of testing to determine if a weapon is overpowered or not fun to play against.

#239 Global whitelist unveiled in News
CapuI really don't understand the logic of "if people find weapons are too powerful, then Valve will fix them". It's not like we didn't know these weapons (and others) were overpowered before. When has Valve looked at any competitive scene and decided to balance their weapons because of it? When everything they've done lately is buff Medic and Scout, which are arguably the most overpowered classes in the game. They haven't fixed the Crit-a-cola, they haven't fixed the Atomizer and they haven't fixed any of the other weapons that this whitelist is still outlawing.

If the purpose of this whitelist is that Valve fixes weapons, why don't we allow everything? If we're really going to have to do this eventually, why risk ruining two consecutive seasons instead of just one? If this is not the only purpose, why are the weapons that people are complaining about allowed? I'm sure that someone wasn't OK with the Atomizer being allowed in that meeting. Where's the reasoning for allowing it? Honestly, these decisions come to us the same way the weapon changes come to us from Valve, and in the same way that people in that meeting complain about: from nowhere. Not to mention the fact that, apparently, a lot of people were missing from that meeting.

If you want people to take this whitelist seriously, then explain your reasoning for allowing/banning weapons. Then there will actually be discussion. Otherwise you're doing the same Valve does, and people really don't like being kept in the dark.

The ETF2L had a Preseason Cup to test the Pomson and the Brass Beast. From some time ago, the ETF2L has been adding more and more weapons to the whitelist, but in a certain pace and with testing. And now, all of a sudden, you open Pandora's Box and allow tons of weapons without playing with them first.

Personally, I'm afraid that if this whitelist doesn't change, people that have been playing for a long time will actually be discouraged. A no-ban enviroment already exists, and Valve can get data from it: Matchmaking. This makes me think that a lot of people will not take the next ETF2L season seriously, and I honestly can understand them. I don't want to play against flying scouts and parachuting soldiers vomiting rockets from the sky ceiling.

Very good post. Only thing is, in matchmaking, the problems in weapon balance aren't as easily noticeable. The first, overarching issue with using matchmaking for any kind of weapon balance is the sheer lack of knowledge of the average player. These players are seriously so bad they can't even roll out on MEDIC. The rollouts video Tagg made should be satire, but instead it's an actual teaching tool. Players who can't even find middle or find the fastest route there don't have the expertise or ability to demonstrate the imbalance of weapons. The second issue is the lack of class limits. There could be examples of items only being overpowered if both classes are using it (ie, 2 scouts using it, 2 soldiers). In matchmaking, you don't always have the status quo of 2 scouts and soldiers.

All of that aside, I find it absolutely hilarious how disjointed everything in this game is. NA/EU rules aren't the same, matchmaking has no whitelist or class limits, the new ruleset has only some of the weapons blacklisted while the majority are whitelisted, and to make matters worse, it seems the majority of players who deserve an opinion on the whitelist weren't even consulted. It's unfortunate, because it's been the problem ever since the creation of competitive TF2. If you don't have a company or group overseeing the rules and standardizing them for everyone, you can't have a successful competitive ecosystem. Allowing these weapons aren't inherently an issue until you leave the majority of the community in the dark. Aside from that seemingly ridiculous oversight, taking these matters into your own hands is the only thing the community can do at this point.

#45 b4nny LAN? in TF2 General Discussion

Would just make infinitely more sense to find an area ~chicago or east coast to make it more convenient for an international setting. A flight from EC to WC could be upwards of 6 hours and also more expensive than you'd like it to be and would generally just be annoying for all the europeans attending. If it were a true iseries event EC players would definitely just hop on a plane to cali, but europeans would absolutely be looking at over 10 hours of travel across the board

EvrewsWhat do you mean by "higher level of play"? By that token why don't teams just use PEDs for "higher quality performance". Isn't the point of a lan to provide a more impartial environment where the only factor that determines individual and team merit is skill (gamesense, deathmatch)? Sourcing that entire category of the game to a 7th player seems rather counter-productive to the concept

I think you very grossly overestimate how even a LAN like iSeries is. It's fun to have international LANs, but a LAN with this environment is far from an even, balanced experience for anyone involved. There are a lot of indirect advantages teams have at a LAN like this. Every one of these I've gone to, myself or my team had issues with the computers and the monitors. At i55, we rented 144hz monitors that had blatant input lag. I remember specifically talking to enigma during group stages about the monitors being nearly unusable. I've also had clear FPS issues on other desktop computers we rented. Crowd, temperature, the overwhelming feeling of playing in a sea of humans at the highest level of competition in the game are all factors that you could argue impact the outcome of a game. Case in point, seagull at i52, upset that someone bumped into his chair. Yes, there's common courtesy and no one intends to brush up against you, or bump your chair, or be influencing the outcome of a game, but it will always happen in small amounts.

I also thought it was sort of strange that you mention PEDs, as if the LAN is drug testing every player that sits down. Have I talked to anyone about using adderall or its equivalent at one of these LANs? No, but I doubt the entire community is clean when they sit down to play this tournament. There's also a much-needed discussion about what the community considers PEDs. Is alcohol a PED? I think it absolutely can be. I've certainly played better under the influence of a beer or two. You can go up to the bar and purchase a drink at any time in-between games.

I'm not intending to deflect your discussion away from coaching, but instead trying to draw attention to the myriad issues with LANs like this. If we're going to nitpick, urge the staff at i61 to do their best to supply every player with the exact same functioning hardware and create an actual sanctioned area for top teams. The setup for all the iSeries events is very laissez-faire.

#60 i58 UF: froyotech vs. Crowns eSports Club in Matches

Top level players don't need help tracking Ubers or taking note of snipers and engineers on last. I'd imagine most of the benefit kaidus gives is overall strategy/calling mids and pushes. While it is an advantage, it's unlikely it's that big. Playing and calling is not as taxing in TF2 as it is in dota or cs considering most of the fighting is an absolute cluster and usually free of comms aside from focuses. Calling a mid or a push is usually not compromising aim or mechanics, as you'll usually be mindlessly spamming a choke.

I don't think coaches are going to become a thing, considering the lack of NA LANs and the lack of pay they'll receive. Coaches would be wise to not do it for free, and spending an extra $1000 to send another American in the form of a coach to the next I-series is not really feasible. All in all, likely completely blown out of proportion.

Tldr froyo will win if they deserve it, regardless of coach
