tf2 crashed whenever i quit

Ive been having a crazy amount of crashes recently, just happens randomly when i connect to a server or server changes map. sometimes my fps drops to like 20fps and I get awful input lag over ~10 seconds at a time
thanks valve =)
im using garm3n ql hud which is pretty old though so that might be the problem
