#10 Low FPS in Q/A Help

"only 55-60 when I'm in a fight" My average FPS in a fight is like 30. When there are like more than 4 people, it goes to like 20.

#186 rip tf2 invite in TF2 General Discussion
dfythere is no in between here, it was just a very sketchy season of invite...teams die and reform every season, players get cycled back into the invite pool its a never ending vicious cycle, just because this season had more dead teams towards playoffs than usual it doesn't mean everyone is gonna walk away from ESEA in hopes of another league having as many features and perks as ESEA

Why can't TF2 players make a league that has similar perks and features as ESEA? As far as I know, ESEA makes money from TF2 players, which means that even after all those perks, prize pots, and features (servers, etc.) they make money. If they can do it, why can't some other person/group? This is what a competitive market thrives on. If a league had the same features (including prize pots) as ESEA and the same cost to players, would there be any reason for invite players not to switch over?

#1 Server tab a la natf2 in Site Discussion

The original request was filled, but I think DM servers should be separated into categories.

I link that page to new players all the time and it would be cool if this site had one.

#12 Does anyone else live in the Amherst, MA area? in LAN Discussion

Let's start with time and place. Where could we do this?

I don't know any rooms at UMass that are set up well for this. I could probably get access to a room, but I'd need to do it through and RSO (registered club) and would need help setting it up since I know nothing about technology and have never done a LAN.

Is there anywhere in Amherst College that might be available and good to use?

#4 dm servers in TF2 General Discussion

There needs to be like 2 minute afk move to spec, 5 minute afk booted from server. Maybe shorter times? I know I've definitely been in a soap and just got up and went to the bathroom and ended up spending like 10+ minutes away from a server and was still in it when I got back. Doesn't really seem fair that I can do that.

#183 rip tf2 invite in TF2 General Discussion
milehighmilitiai just think that willing IM teams who have been working towards invite and are to the point where they would be a fine addition to the league should get the go ahead over a newly forming/reforming team that died the previous season, and will probably die again when said team doesnt make lan.

I really really hate bringing this up, but look at the old LG with tagg and the gang on it. They got moved up and fell apart and went winless. I'm like 99% sure if I remember correctly the losses weren't the reason they broke up, but let's be real. No one likes losing, especially people that worked hard to get into invite and get outclassed. It would be like putting me into IM. I'd just get fucking stomped and I'd honestly lose motivation. Part of what keeps me in TF2 and why I am content with Open for now is that there are people better than me, but I honestly think I have a chance at beating a lot of them. If I went 0-16 in Open next season, I'm not so sure how I would feel at the end of it.

Also, why aren't we (and by we I mean vortex) talking about Mihaly's Flow last season? It seems to me that a lot of new players earn their way into Invite and stay there, but don't end up on the winning teams season after season, but it's slowly changing. I'm going to quote Shwan here when he was teaching me about the game last Spring in that TF2 is heavily dependent on experience (something I agree with for the most part). Since someone's skill or utility to a team is based on experience, how can you expect up and comers to beat invite players that have been playing invite longer than the IM up and comers have? It seems like a no-brainer to take someone who's had 3 seasons of invite albeit 2 years ago than someone who has won IM in their third ESEA season but has had no real challenges in matches (or experience losing matches in invite) so far. Especially if the older player is humble and just trying to get back into the scene, whereas the newer player might naturally feel some entitlement to their place in invite. Honestly, if people feel like players should make consistent rosters and slowly move up the ranks as a team, then GO DO IT. There is nothing stopping you.

I see two "solutions" for the tf2 community in the long term:

1) A move away from ESEA to a community driven, but still very legitimate competitive league (like ETF2L). Why does their model work, and why haven't we replicated it in NA? What about UGC makes it so different than ESEA and what can be done to make a league that is functionally like ESEA but has none of the TF2 apathy or "machinations" as pointed out by others earlier in this thread.

2) An ESEA incentive structure for teams that a) stay together, b) move up through the ranks/divisions, and c) lose. TF2 is a hobby, and if one pays $30 to lose a bunch of matches, how can he/she really be satisfied with his/her experience? Maybe it's just because I study economics that I see the situation like this, but it seems to me that the current ESEA structure is no way to grow the game. The
reason I prefer solution 1 is because ESEA has shown no interest in growing the game, despite the obvious profit incentive to ESEA to grow their TF2 divisions. Look at how many people are playing 6v6 in UGC. There should be efforts by ESEA to convert those people into customers (from a business perspective), but as far as I'm aware, they just don't care (talking about lpkane and torbull, not killing and kalkin who I think get a lot of shit but really have their hands tied in 9/10 sitations).

#12 yet another DM thread in TF2 General Discussion
milehighmilitiaDM in a real game is a lot more than just shooting at people.

Exactly. Sometimes I feel like my DM in game is way better because I can play off my teammates and use my position to create advantages. Other times I feel like my aim is complete shit in game compared to like 10 minutes into a SOAP session.

#65 rip tf2 invite in TF2 General Discussion

I think maybe all those IM players with invite experience will move up and fill in the gaps nicely.

I wonder where we'll be in a year for the next big insomnia event. It seems that a lot of the big Euro names stick around and if they make a team to beat Americans and Americans just stop playing, does that mean that they might win if we send people over the sea again?
