#8 2016 NHL Playoffs Thread in Off Topic

Ovechkin just nailed #50 this season. Absolutley amazing to hit that number of goals in the NHL these days. This dude does it 3 seasons in a row

gecksSpaceCadethell yeah GO FLYERS! I bleed orange and black and always will.
My neighbors must hate me this time of year. Every big goal or awesome defensive play gets an eruption from me.

Playing the Capitals will be a very difficult series but I predict it will be the most physical series of all in the 1st round. It is really going to come down to how well the Flyers can do 2 things. First, they someone to step up and neutralize Ovechkin. (kinda how we did it to Malkin a few season ago in the playoffs). Secondly, the Flyers have not been a great team on the road. They need to win at least 1 of the first 2 games to have a solid chance in this series.

Whichever team advances will be a tired group of players for the second round though.

Hell yeah thank god someone else on here is a Flyers fan!

I agree on your points there. Couturier is REALLY good against Ovechkin, he has been shutting him down all season when they are on the ice together. Hopefully he sees a lot of ice time to neutralize him. Like you said, it'll be a ridiculously physical series, and a hell of a lot of fun to watch.

I just don't want anyone to get injured tomorrow against the Islanders in a meaningless game. Hopefully both teams just coast through and treat it like an All-Star game or something.

Mason will probably get some rest and we will possibly see the return of Neuvirth. I personally want to see the first game for our future goaltender, Anthony Stolarz. The kid is a massive 6'6 230 pound monster in net.

#153 We need to talk about the booties in TF2 General Discussion

As a roamer main, booties annoy me to no end but so do many unlocks currently in use. To be honest, there are some weak reasons in this thread to supporting banning the booties. Tops on the list is "forcing the other demo to use booties". Don't give me that crap, nobody can ever force you to use a particular item. Unless an item is totally broken or leading to excessive stalemates (quickfix) then it falls on the player / team to find a strategy that works if you can't break another team.

I agree that items need to be tweaked from time to time but in this case I don't see Booties breaking the game in any fashion. You can compare booties to Kritz or playing against a sniper/heavy more than anything else. There are accepted play styles to counter each problem a team may face and this is no different. Just because booties forces teams to play differently against a skilled demo does not mean an item is broken.

Every single unlock in this game means that the player more skilled in the use of that unlock will provide some sort of advantage to his team. Booties are no different in this respect so it seems like players crying because they are not good enough to deal with a new strategy or a particular player skilled in the use of an item hence the call for "nerfs".

#29 ESEA Season 21 Invite playoffs preview in News

Some LAN / Playoff stats for the teams / players involved:

Ronin vs 20B is a pretty incredible comparison.
Both teams have almost identical career stats when all players are combined.

  • Combined Playoff Wins / Losses -------- Ronin -- 94--83 -------- 20b -- 96--81
  • Combined Playoff Matches ----------------- Ronin -- 177 ------------ 20b -- 177
  • TF2 Championships --------------------------- Ronin -- 8 --------------- 20b -- 8
  • Players ---------- Playoff Record -------------- Championships
  • phorofor -------------- 6--1 --------------------------- 1
  • rando ----------------- 10--18 ------------------------- 1
  • bdonski ------------- 20--22 ------------------------- 1
  • Ma3la ----------------- 20--22 ------------------------- 1
  • yomps ----------------- 6--1 --------------------------- 1
  • shrugger ------------ 32--19 ------------------------- 3
  • cozen ------------------- 7--2 --------------------------- 0
  • showstopper -------- 3--9 --------------------------- 0
  • duwatna -------------- 25--11 ------------------------- 3
  • cyzer ------------------- 45--36 ------------------------- 4
  • ash ---------------------- 14--18 ------------------------- 1
  • alec ---------------------- 2--5 --------------------------- 0

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

By comparison, Froyo vs EVL couldn't be more lopsided based off the stats alone. However, it is obvious that b4nny and Clockwork carry the All-Time numbers. EVL is completely made of players in their first season with no playoff experience to date but so is half of Froyo and will hopefully make this a fantastic first round matchup.

  • Combined Playoff Wins / Losses -------- Froyo -- 135--68 --------- EVL -- 0--0
  • Combined Playoff Matches ----------------- Froyo -- 203 -------------- EVL -- 0
  • TF2 Championships --------------------------- Froyo -- 15 ---------------- EVL -- 0
  • Players ---------- Playoff Record -------------- Championships
  • ninjanick ----------- 4--13 --------------------------- 0
  • b4nny --------------- 80--32 -------------------------- 9
  • muma --------------- N/A ----------------------------- 0
  • freestate ------------ N/A ----------------------------- 0
  • paddie -------------- N/A ----------------------------- 0
  • clockwork --------- 51--23 -------------------------- 6
  • Nursey -------------- N/A ---------------------------- 0
  • Aim ------------------ N/A ---------------------------- 0
  • hassassin --------- N/A ---------------------------- 0
  • Slemnish ---------- N/A ---------------------------- 0
  • botmode ----------- N/A ---------------------------- 0

#21 The Future of ESEA Invite in TF2 General Discussion
bearodactylSpaceCadetflufnIt was super fun to watch. I hope more team that know they're going to get rolled do this.
I felt it was beyond retarded to watch in a match setting. Why should the next "underdog" team just throw in the towel and play like idiots against Froyo or Ascent because they are in for a really tough match to win? I have never thought I was going to lose anything competitive in my life until the game was over and the other team proved me wrong. Until that happens, play hard all the time to win and fuck around during scrims/pugs.
given the fact that they can't conceivably make playoffs I don't see a problem in deciding that fucking with b4nny is more important than trying to win an inconsequential match

I can understand and I am sure it was a team decision to play the way they did. I was more commenting on a personal level. Even if I was out of playoff contention or if the match meant nothing for the season, it was still a chance to improve and work on things against one of the best teams / players around. I would view it as a missed opportunity but perhaps I am putting too much into it, that is just how I would personally feel if I was involved.

#11 Best Match VODs? in Videos
mSpaceCadet
IMO the best TF2 ever played between 2 teams is right here. The very final match on Badlands in the LB went to a Golden Cap to decide who went home and who advanced. Watching live was such an enjoyable and intense time.

i46 mixup was much stronger
i49 epsilon was much stronger

im not saying the matches werent intense/exciting but im sure you could ask returning players for either team which series they feel they played better in/were more prepared for and i think theyd agree

I agree with both opinions about mix and epsi. Would have been insane to see i46 mixup vs i49 Epsi.

I was referring more to how closely matched epsi/mix were at i52. I can't recall another LAN series of 6 matches between 2 teams that were so closely played with the exception of the first map where mixup rolled Epsi 5-0 on badlands.
