#10 EVE Online Giant Nerd Space Battles in Other Games

Yep, that pic is what it looks like with the "all objects" tactical overlay enabled. Normally, you reduce the clutter on-screen by filtering out player-launched drones, and any shiptypes you don't care about shooting or watching.

I used to play a lot several years ago. Turns out, running a 1000-player alliance is a lot of work and it took too much of my time, so I stopped doing it. I got back into it a couple months ago to do what I said above, play 1 hour a week.

As eXtine and Luke said earlier in the thread, and as I mentioned, we have an internal deadline set. Waiting on distributors to see whether they can meet that deadline.

It's in its final release form. I think we're mostly waiting on distributors.

Yeah, the TiDi makes it unwatchable. Everything happens in slow motion. The only reason to subject yourself to that level of lag is if you're interested in being part of a "momentous" battle of some sort. "I was there, EVE is real" stuff.

Even as slow as things were going, I knew it was gonna end badly for us when our 5 fleets warped into the middle of their 8. They were positioned in a perfect sphere around our station, where they could apply maximum damage in any direction. Our fleets all arrived at once, balled up, in the enemies' optimal range. It was not a battle we planned on winning.

I found a good way to play only one hour a week and still have a lot of fun. I fly only interdictors, and I fly them for an alliance big enough to have a 100% replacement program for them. When I see a global ping on jabber for a fleet that looks interesting and I have an hour or two to kill, I'll join it, deliberately fly as risky as possible, die, and be satisfied that I bubbled something. Then I just request reimbursement, get a new dictor, rinse and repeat whenever I have free time.

It's better than the alternative, which is for anybody past the 400th person to just black-screen and never be able to activate anything on his ship.

Time dilation (TiDi) was introduced last year as an automated, equitable lag-compensation mechanic. 10% TiDi is normal for fleet fights of 750+.

I was there for a half hour of this in a utility ship that was ultimately useless. I say useless because it's a ship that does a really good job of preventing your enemies from running away, but since our side was losing the fight massively, the enemy didn't really WANT to run away.

Some background - I play for the reddit-based TEST alliance about once a week. The Clusterfuck Coalition (CFC, headed by the SomethingAwful-based Goonswarm) has been invading TEST's space and pulling bigger numbers for every fight. This battle was set up not as a real defensive objective for TEST, but as a "last hurrah" to provide a good means of closure for TEST, who's lost the war at this point.

Also, Skyride plays in TEST so make fun of him for being as big of an internet spaceship nerd as me.

Luke is aware of that fact.

It's not released, anyway. From what I've seen, we could probably upload it somewhere today. I haven't spoken with Luc on what we're waiting for, aside from some artwork. He is the one in charge of the editing and production process so my information is pretty limited.

I've finally gotten Glass, so I can walk around like a total dork and take videos of everything without having to reach into my pocket for a camera. Wowzers.

It's about a month away from this post!

Who's going? Who's teamless? Who's bringing the liquor?

I am definitely teamless. I haven't spoken with Vanilla yet but they want me to cast, so if I do play in any tournaments I'll have to be backup and probably just be absent. Would still be fun to do, though.

#23 The Weapon Balance Megathread in TF2 General Discussion

Just to be clear on jarate, there are a couple of ways of clearing it faster. Heal beams reduce its duration, and submerging in water eliminates it.
