The winter has thrown in wrench in a lot of peoples schedules, which means Newbie Mixes are having a difficult time making sure everything is running smoothly. We're looking for:
- Coaches, as always, will be needed to teach newbies how to play on fridays. Each mix will last 30-60 minutes, depending on how much the newbies need to be taught before the game starts, and how balanced the teams are. You can coach as much or as little as you want, and we'll call for help via discord/steam when we need people to coach more games. Ideally, all coaches will have gone at least positive in Open.
-Drafting Admins are starting to be needed this year, with our current pool of them being more unavailable as schedules shift around. Drafting Admins are in charge of moderating the channel, constructing the teams for the mixes, and answering questions in between games. While Drafting Admins sometimes have a larger time commitment into Newbie Mixes than coaches, it mainly requires you to just be in mumble, and not necessarily TF2. Ideally, Drafting Admins would have some form of community reputation, and be able to answer any question the newbies have about competitive TF2.
It's predominantly volunteer work, but Newbie Mixes has played it's part in stabilizing the lower level of the competitive community for years by constantly facilitating the influx of newer players into the scene. Even though for some it's difficult to help out on a consistent basis, assisting even once a month can be the difference maker in our ability to run at the capacity we strive to achieve.
If you fit the criteria and would like to help out, or have any questions, add me or pm me on discord Jarrett#1250 and I can give you the information you need. Thank you.
WackyfireballIt seems you sign up as a donator and pay when teams are made
Correct, just to make sure we don't get more money than we actually need.
samifaceis there a donation link?
If needed I'll post again with a more public donation link in January. I'm hesitant to put up one now because I'm not sure how much money we'd get from the community nor how many newbies will end up needing help paying.
The shakier your schedule (as a backup), the more backups I have to put onto the team, which will likely split the already limited playtime.
The signup page states twice that the cost you have to pay is $30, and your 5 teammates would have to pay the same thing. ~$180 total for a whole team.
I'm planning on ending the drive on the 31st and if that changes I'll let people know.
If you have a general things that you want in your teammates (similar age range, similar experience, ect) then put that in the "comments" section of the form. If you have particular friends you want to play with, if you both put you want to play together I'll put you on the same team.
The Newbie Mix Team Drive is back for Season 27 of ESEA
The NA 6v6 Newbie Mix squad is putting on a team drive for this upcoming season, and we want it to be as large as possible. The removal of IM was a wakeup call to everyone on how ESEA TF2 has progressed throughout the past year or so, and we’re looking to help by at least giving the community the numbers it needs to bring it back. We’re hoping to not only make the barrier of entry much lower for people on the fence about joining ESEA, but facilitate more balanced matches for the entire league.
I have complete confidence that we can pull together a really strong team drive this season, but the Newbie Admins can't do this alone. We need the help of as many people as possible. Here are some volunteer positions that we need:
Mentors
Will be put in charge of a single team. Team mentors will help their team get their roster sorted properly, guide the newbies through the ropes of paying/playing in ESEA properly, and do demo/map reviews with their team. Every team that signs up will be getting a mentor, and we would absolutely love to have a large pool of people to choose the best-of-the-best from, so please sign up. It shouldn't take more than 1-2 hours a week, and a team will love you for it.
Data Entry Staff
This one is simple, and anyone with a bit of rep in the community can help (regardless of their in-game skill). All the signup forms need to be entered into a google doc that we have set up during the first week of January, and it's a very easy job if we have a handful of people on top of it.
Newbie Sponsors
This is the less fun part. Some of the people that will play in the drive teams will be kids/young teenagers with no way to pay for ESEA. The amount of money we’d need to assist every player that signs up for the drive will likely exceed hundreds of dollars. Some of that will come from ESEA referral money, and some of it can be generously donated, but any newbies that can’t get paid for in some way will unfortunately be unable to participate. When our drive ends around December 31st, we’ll have about week to find people to help pay for some of these newbies fees, otherwise it will be difficult to comfortably place them on teams. Newbie Sponsors will be people we reach out to after that date about donating money to go towards fees.
If you don't want to pay for an entire newbie, but still want to help and donate, you can donate here, and check our progress here.
To volunteer in any of these positions message Jarrett on tftv or steam with a link to your ESEA page, your email (for google docs), and the things you'd like to help out with. If you have any questions/stipulations about the positions, or need more clarification, feel to message me about that too. Newbies can ask questions here. Even if you don't want to help out in any official capacity, spread the word as much as you can. Let's do something amazing for this game we all enjoy so much.
Thank you.

rivetsviperon the topic of new sponsors in invite, how many are we retaining from last season, aside from faint and ascentVelocity?
yes
if your match is tonight and you can't get enough money in time add me and I'll give you a premium code to buy you some time
The way the sub system is going to be changed as far as I know is based on how often you play with particular players. Something along the lines of the top three players that you play the most with in pugs (that applied for the sub) will be shown to you and you can pick one of the three. That way if someone applies for the sub that probably isn't suited to play that particular pug, there's a lesser chance of them being the person that gets it.
highfivei had a fun time waiting an hour for brokings autism to settle just so we could roll them
