Bump. It's almost prime time and more people need to see this.

#2 dm servers slow join in TF2 General Discussion

Yes the way you fix it is to set it so your client only downloads maps. Please everyone do this so we don't have "full" dm servers with everyone loading forever but really it's a 3v2 in there for 10 minutes.

in the options, or...

#4 lft mid open scout in Recruitment (looking for team)

Don't get too excited, HedgieWedgie. I asked to be replaced from my team because my teammates are too good for me. They may have some lacking of experience but everyone's dm is high open AT LEAST. I can't keep up with them and it feels bad to be a let down literally every game and it also feels bad to just get shit on nonstop because you're playing above your level. I should have not joined in the first place. Even if I could nolife this game (cannot, adult) I wouldn't improve fast enough to make me a good fit. Not only am I notoriously slow at improving but I'm dealing with major changes in my life, at work, among other places, which limit the amount of effort I can put into serious improvement.

Despite all of that I've been having fun playing scout. I just want play game.

#1 lft mid open scout in Recruitment (looking for team)

Looking to play around mid open level as scout. Prefer flank scout. I have like 18 seasons of demoman experience (up to IM) and a season on pocket. I am available Sun - Thurs, 930 - 12 EST and that is my preferred schedule.

Also I have a server/mumble

#67 Leagues meet to discuss future of North American TF2 in News

"Another, which was resoundingly rejected, was to unify all leagues behind a front-runner as to avoid fracturing the player pool."

I'm a bit disappointed to read that though I understand many of the good reasons for doing it like this. Nevertheless I think that fracturing the player pool is a very real possibility and the main thing that I don't want to see next fall is 3-5 different leagues all going live at the same time. We should not wait to see who joins what leagues and use that as a gauge of popularity and to see which league to get behind. By the time you let it get that far there could be substantial damage done which could lead to a shortening of the lifespan of our beloved game.

I think we need the leagues that are competing for this spot to present a standardized mission statement/cover letter type document that lays out clearly where they stand on certain issues as well as lets them describe in a brief and direct way their vision for their product and how it would be better or different from some of their competitors. We then need to conduct rounds of runoff elections the results of which would eliminate the least popular choice(s) after which the remaining parties could add to their statements and further plead their cases. This process would be done multilpe times until there are as few options left as reasonably possible. We could even use a form of system like this (https://youtu.be/l8XOZJkozfI) (or not because that might be needlessly complicated).

I should mention that I have no idea what the best way to conduct voting would be as far as making it fair and accessible and logistically practical but I'm sure someone here has some good ideas. The important thing for me is to have as few leagues as possible duking it out for participation come next season. Ideally it would just be one left and we could all give it a fair shake.

#23 Is comp tf2 w/ no whitelist plausible? in TF2 General Discussion
TobOthers like the sun-on-a-stick have been useless for 8 years.

Stop right there. It may be useless for competitive but it's actually one of the best melees for scouting around in pubs. Don't try to hit burning people with it. Instead take it out after you kill the pyro who ambushed you and you have a better chance of making it to a healthpack before you burn to death.

I strictly forbid you from playing "low open". There's no way in hell you're that rusty. I bet you'll be slaying like a mofo in no time at all.

#2 NA tf.tv DM servers in TF2 General Discussion

Bump. Actually no one knows? This some illuminati secret? They still say "by Fog" so I assume he at least pays for the servers? Who has access to admin on these?

#3 Apt LFT S31 in Recruitment (looking for team)

Long ago he used to be pretty short-fused, upsettable, and brash but now there's very little of that left. Actually Apt is one of the most loyal and dedicated (even to a fault) players I've ever met. He's always working on something and trying to improve himself and maintain a positive outlook. He's also a really nice and down-to-earth guy. Oh yeah and he's total nutter who freakin slays.

#34 pass_arena2 in Map Discussion

Map has been updated to version b4
https://www.mediafire.com/file/ka3x8wnx9289fsl/pass_arena2_b4.bsp

changelogpass_arena2_b4
-Rebuilt and tidied goal structure
---Built new goal which is substantially smaller
---Goal is now tilted 15 degrees up instead of 30
-"Gay" (spot above goal) has been removed
-"Dark" (areas to far sides of middle) slightly expanded
-Pillars for the window gates are rounder now
-Misc. other small touch-ups

The biggest change (aside from the cursed hiding spots above goal being removed) is that the goal is now smaller and tilted slightly less upward. The reason for this is because the game, as everyone has determined over the years, is very offense-oriented. Defense is still very important and these changes make it slightly tougher on attackers and help out the defense whether the threat is coming from the ground or the air. Overall the game still plays pretty much exactly the same which is good! The main disadvantage is that this new goal is even less beginner-friendly. Even with the old enormous goals newer players often had a hard time putting the ball in and now with the even smaller size it can be a bit discouraging but I feel that this is absolutely worth it since the game needs to designed and balanced around what the best players can do, not noobs.

There are still aspects to the game which are a bit questionable (OP?) like some of the kinds of trimp attacks that a demoman can pull off that area so fast that they're almost 'unstoppable' but organized teams have shown that even these moves and strategies can be contested and countered and so I'm hesitant to make broader changes which would limit them (like removing more ramps or even just banning the demo class).
