#9 Voicechat and mechanical keyboards in Hardware
toothIf you're currently using headphones and a desktop mic, try finding a modmic. It'll fit right onto your existing headphones and will pick up much less background noise since it's far less sensitive and closer to your mouth.

Modmics are unidirectional mics and will still pickup the keyboard, though not as much as a desktop mic. It will help but isn't a solution. Just an fyi before you drop $30 on the mic.

#8 Voicechat and mechanical keyboards in Hardware

Microphone type and placement is pretty key as some have pointed out.

If it's really bad you can get some o-ring stablizers. They reduce the sound by about 40%. I recommend the 40A-L.

#20 Solocast of Tri hards vs Top Guns on ze youtubes in TF2 General Discussion

Thank you so much for the cast!!! If you're using OBS and since you're not streaming this, you could use a way higher resolution for recording (maybe 720). Would have loved this in HD but still amazing.

#6 HUD - Remove health cross when buffed and when low in TF2 General Discussion

Go into the hudlayout.res and do a search for "visible" and look what has a "1". Change one to "0" at a time until you find the one responsible for the crosshair.

-edit-
Just looked at the file you uploaded. The second item in hudlayout.res is called "winzcross" and has both visible and enable set to "1"; change it to "0" and it should remove the crosshair.

#10 PC build in Hardware

You don't have to use the latest and greatest video card. He could go with a nice 5 series card or a cheaper 6 series.

OblivionageKiritoStorage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($69.98 @
Don't use seagate ._. but otherwise that looks good too.

also in most cases 7870 is better than 660 ti and it is 30 dollars cheaper. Just putting that out there.

If you're getting the Asus monitor don't get an ATI card. Lightboost is only supported by NVidia cards and is well worth it.

#13 Dropping frames in OBS in TF2 General Discussion

Set your FPS to 30 in the Video tab.
Try setting x264 CPU Preset to veryfast or superfast.
Disable Aero.
If that doesn't work set your upload to 4500 and Buffer Size to 1500.
