I'd like to try out the format but I can't really find any good resources for the meta, the different strats or any map guides

a lot of this is mainly due to the gamemode having no real core audience; from my understanding most of the people who still play 4's nowadays (especially in gold) do so on the side of 6s/prolander/hl, since it's a lot easier to just pick up as a casual competitive gamemode with 3 friends or teammates. the best way to jump into 4s is to find a few friends who have some free time on friday nights and just run around the maps and try different things

That's exactly why I want to play it
