What does resolution change??

I have been playing TF2 on 1280x720 and I seem to be better at scout with this. However, I am able to on average hit a higher dpm on soldier and seem to get more directs on soldier with 1920x1080.

So what changes when I change my res?
I feel like the models are bigger, my sens is slower (I use raw input 1.7 800dpi) and the screen is smaller. Is this in any way true?

pretty sure the only thing that changes with res that changes things model wise would be aspect ratio where 4:3 has a lower FOV than 16:9 even if both are on fov_desired 90

Since you're switching from 2 different 16:9 ratios the models wont be different sizes however on 1280x720 you're taking a 720p image and stretching it to your native 1920x1080 monitor so its just more pixelated.

Yeah, stuff is going to seem larger on a lower resolution because your taking a smaller portion of the game and blowing the image up to fit your native resolution (which i assume is 1920x1080). This is why it's going to feel like your sens is faster/slower depending on your resolution as well.

Kinda like if you look at the screen on a digital camera and turn it 30 degrees, but then zoom in and then do the same rotation, it's going to look like the zoomed in version is moving faster, but in all reality it's moving at the same rate, if that makes any sense.

Cool cool, thanks for the responses.

Last thing, is there a way to calculate how much I need to change my mouse sens when switching res?

There is no change in sensitivity between res, it just feels faster because its displaying less.

Any positive or negative changes you feel are mostly due to placebo and preferance. Unless you are on older hardware and get a massive difference in fps due the lower resolution.

higher res only helps with hitting pixels at long range without a scope – like hitting goose from pit on dust2 with an m4. helpful for games like cs but not so much for tf2.
