i was browsing and discovered these icons that use custom weapon crosshairs built into your hud to display what weapon youre holding with the old quake icons
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T4yZyjoKPDI&feature=youtu.be
i dont use viewmodels, and i get confused with which weapon i have out, so i often find myself trying to rocket jump with the shotgun or the escape plan. i picked up the vtf files from an old thread, after contacting one of the posters, and i want to combine them with my hud, and i cant get them to work! can somebody help me? the hud I use has a seperate file for built in crosshairs, and im terribly confused and nothing seems to be working. i cant get the icons to display on the screen, and my hudlayout.res file only moves my in-game crosshair down the screen, and not the icon. I know they are working vtf files, because i had copied the information to put an image crosshair onscreen and the vtf loaded and i saw the file I had refrenced. can somone PLEASE help me with this?

*some information on my game specifications*
I play on stretched 4:3 (1024x768), with an fps config that arguably eliminates almost every visual effect in the game, my hud's "hudlayout.res" refrences a "crosshairs.res" that use built-in crosshairs into the hud. the directory on where im combining the weapon script files (each of which specify a custom crosshair in, and a custom explosion effect for explosive weapons) is tf/custom/idhud-master/scripts/ for the weapon scripts, and /tf/custom/idhud-master/materials/vgui/replay/thumbnails/ is where the vtf files are placed atm.

just for clarification - i am in no way experienced with how to create a hud, and barely know how they work

Put the folders containing the files for the icons in a folder in your custom folders, they're not part of a HUD, they're VTF crosshairs.

you install them like normal vtf crosshairs, which means you not only have to put them in the right place, but you have to specify them in their script files.

then you'll have to move the default crosshair location so they they aren't centered in ur screen

obviously, since they replace ur default crosshair, you'll need to use a hud crosshair too

i am not familiar with how to install a vtf crosshair, i do not want them to replace my crosshair, and i want them to be the hud crosshair. they are not crosshairs, they are weapon specific icons that are displayed on the screen, they are only read as crosshairs

also, i have the weapon scripts
