Pixel 2 just announced. Pretty similar to all the leaks. Everything about it looks pretty good imo. Anyone considering getting it? I'd likely get the XL as an upgrade from my Galaxy S8+. Slightly smaller screen, but about the same dimensions.

Firewhat people use their phones for that theyd need it, maybe someone can tell me.

at the very least app developers, people who are into mobile software in general ie testers, plus overall just really busy people who need longer battery life or some advanced multitasking but thats just my guesses

When most people spend so much time on their phones it's worth it.

Watched the whole event, was actually pretty blown away at all these products Google showed off today - was not expecting them to go this hard into products. I really think they have hit a stride by combining their two biggest strengths: software and AI with solid hardware from HTC/LG & others. Apple really needs to invest heavily into AI and they need to do it now or they will see a decent chunk of their market share lost to Google. Was reading that Google has most of the top AI talent in silicon valley and Apple may have to start poaching people with some of that JUICY Apple cash flow. I recently switched to an iPhone from a Note 5 and Siri really is complete garbage compared to Google assistant, it's clear that Apple is not in a sufficient position at the moment for the incoming AI war...

manskirtulmyxxuntil i can get iMessage on android i'm not switching. Why is this such a big deal to people

People who use iOS typically know lots of others who use iOS. iMessage is enabled by default and it because a huge hassle to communicate with someone who doesn't have iMessage on anymore. Sure you could use whatsapp, or hangouts, or allo or something like that, but good luck getting the probably hundreds of people you know who use imessage to switch.

What about it is an upgrade from the s8+?
To be honest I'm pretty disappointed with the pixel 2 (non xl), I was hoping the leaks weren't real but they are and it's just so boring, all they did was added speakers, removed the headphone jack, and failed to bring it up to ip68 water resistance.
If I didn't think it was too big the XL would be a good phone but nothing really revolutionary.

What? I have no problem texting people who use and have iMessage, The only real "downside" is that you can't rename group messages in iPhone's if one person doesn't have iMessage. All three of my roommates have iPhones and I have an android and we have no problem texting one another

It's not so much a problem with iMessage instead of it being more of a problem with google not actually having a good messaging platform themselves.

For those that might want to switch, there isn't any Android equivalent to iMessage, most people probably don't really realise what is going through SMS or iMessage because it works well.

Google have just churned out a new messenger every 2 years (allo, hangouts, gtalk). And I'm pretty sure all of these never had SMS support from the get go.

I had a nexus 6p before my s8+ and the 2XL has all the things I miss from the 6p with the big screen of the s8+. I really like the front facing speakers and, while modern touchwiz is pretty good, I still miss stock android. I always use bluetooth headphones so headphone jack is a non-issue for me. Not having IP68 is somewhat annoying, but I don't think it'd be a big issue. Definitely going to wait to see one in person before I decide.
