it runs a lot faster than the browser version which is really nice but i feel baited into using a program that doesn't let me block their ads

At first I didn't use it since BTTV wasn't supported. Unless they manage to make monkaS a global emote alongside LUL, I'll be too lazy to try it again.

Cerdurit runs a lot faster than the browser version which is really nice but i feel baited into using a program that doesn't let me block their ads

I'm familiar with it b/c of minecraft xddd
I do feel the same way though, almost like spamware to me, but twitch does suck ass. But, there is software out there that can play twitch streams through it, and you can connect to chats via irc... So there is that option. I used mpv on linux for the video player in the past. lowkey it was lit,

do you mean streamlink? used to be known as livestreamer but the dev dropped it so it got forked. there's a pretty good Twitch-GUI for it.
I recommend using it with mpv, which ships with youtube-dl integrated, so together with browser add-ons like Open-With you can pipe most videos(direct links, or just pages that have them embedded) straight to your video player. I watch pretty much all my video content through mpv now.
