Competitive MM Changes

Other than removing graphical restrictions, implementing class limits, balancing weapons, fixing elo, dealing with hackers, and using the correct map pool, is there anything Valve must do in order for you to enjoy and play comp MM?

Those are the usual talking points of the problems of competitive matchmaking, but are there any problems that aren't as discussed?

write an apology letter for releasing a beta as a finished product
shut down the whole thing while they dont have an actual anti-cheat and ELO system
they gave the comp community an awful image, most pubbers that tried mm now think that competitive is flooded with cheaters and bad maps

I just can't understand valve's point of view when it comes to MM. We as a community already figured out the best format years ago and yet valve still refuse to implement the necessary limits since it goes against their vision?

considering blizzard ripped off many aspects of tf2's gameplay, I don't see why valve can't just rip off Overwatch's competitive matchmaking system

Khakiconsidering blizzard ripped off many aspects of tf2's gameplay, I don't see why valve can't just rip off Overwatch's competitive matchmaking system

they dont even have to look at other companies, just get the ideas from csgo, a game with actual decent ELO
unless the guy in charge of CSGO MM left the company this should be piss easy, the only problem i see is calculating ELO for medics. they could probably make it half dependant on raw heals per minute, half on average player performance
edit: also if they do implement class limits, their system for it is flawed and can be exploited to have more players than the supposedly allowed as can be seen in faceit sometimes. they should look at the community plugin for classlimits and fix their own version. a improved demo recording system would be nice too

limiting the last med from changing classes and some system to ensure a med 100% of the time (volunteer on add up & enforce one volunteer for parties of 4 or more?)

class limits dont matter imo, like you can have 4 demos and two meds and get none of the benefits of that much choke control because of constant pushing. imo they're just a hacky way of forcing class balance

placement matches dont matter, just cover your rank for 10 games if you care cause that's pretty much all they do

however a proper elo system does matter, seriously what proper ranking system starts you off at the very bottom

non-op aids unlocks should be fixed, mainly quick-fix is pretty powerful just because of the build speed and the fact that buffs dont matter much because no-one manages them well, likewise stuff like critacola is crazy good at lower dm levels

Graphical restrictions are necessary to some extent aswell

Do you think requiring two soldiers, two scouts, one demo, and one medic when the average player's levels are extremely low and then with higher levels allowing offclassing with regular class limits is too extreme or would help cultivate the competitive scene and prevent players playing snipers, pyros, and spies for the full game early on?

ZeRo5Graphical restrictions are necessary to some extent aswell

In what way?

Most of, if not all of the graphical restrictions forced by valve have been non beneficial and do more harm than good, honestly. Who cares if the game looks good when it runs too terribly for anyone to feasibly play? In addition to that, viewmodels being forced to either default or minmode is pretty aids too, especially when you consider that the only alternative to having a viewmodel obstructing your vision is a viewmodel that's off centered and doesn't line up with how, lets say, projectiles are drawn on the screen when you fire them. (rocket launcher).

I will say though, that while I'm not a fan of CSGO's graphical restrictions I can at least understand the enforcement of them because the game is actually able to be played with them on with little to no effect on performance. This is not the case in TF2, and if the dev team cares about its player-base as much as they'd like us to believe, they'd realize that they cannot expect us to meet an unreasonable standard.

nutshinyAnyone else think valve should add the same class limits that we have?

Seriously. They don't even need to do that. All these have to do at least is implement a class limit of two. Having two medics would be annoying as shit but it would still be infinitely better than having none like they do now. It's like 1 line of fucking code. The community figured out how to do it literally years ago. All they would have had to do is copy paste something from a server config. It's actually mind blowingly lazy.

I am fine with graphical restrictions on the condition that they make the game run well enough with them that graphics configs are not absolute necessity for smooth 144hz gameplay on modern hardware and said graphical restrictions are blanket (the whole game not just comp).

Valve also needs to bring back more traditional pubs even if they are ran by Valve. I don't see the point of a MM system for pubs. It prevents players from creating communities. I used to meet friends in pubs and it was through those friends that i got into comp in the first place.

Min viewmodels need to be fixed so that the position of the weapon more closely resembles were the projectiles come out of your screen.

Random crits need to be REMOVED. They should have never made it out of beta in the first place and have been a plague unto people trying to play this game even semi seriously since release.

Valve desperately needs to update the default settings.
The default net settings in particular are absolute dogshit. FOV should be set 90 by default and the setting to change it removed from the menu.
Ragdolls on/off as a in menu option would be nice.
Viewmodels should be viewmodel_fov 70 and minmode by default.
Hitsounds and hit numbers should be on by default.
Default hitsound made less annoying.
Add bordered crosshairs as a in game option.
Fix the default crosshairs to be less shit.
Add per class and per weapon crosshair settings.
Fix that terrible default hud. The uber meter gets covered by steam messages in minmode and you can't even see the damage text because some buffon thought it would be a good idea to make it a faded red for some reason.
accel off by default
raw input on by default

I am certain there is some things i missed but these seem the most egregious to me.

I dont like the default net settings. it makes me unable to play any projectile class. also it would be nice to see a few more singleplayer tutorials that you need to complete to be able to play competitive. like a rocket jump tutorial, and airstrafing tutorial, and maybe an airshot tutorial for soldier and demo. also you should be able to use a stock version of all unlocks when playing competitive
