KotH Maps

Hey everyone, after reading the threads about Gravelpit and Attack/Defense maps, I was just curious about how everyone felt about King of the Hill. Do you like the gamemode, but not Viaduct? Do you think Bagel would be a good edition? Do we need more or just zero koth maps in the rotation? I just want a general consensus on what people want from the gamemode, as I'm getting into mapping and thinking about creating some koth maps for 6s.

I know this is a bit selfish but for someone who only mainly watches competitive tf2, KoTH is usually a lot more fun to watch. Probably cause its hard to stalemate on KoTH unless a team is forward holding to death. Even then the other team is then forced to push or do something and if nothing happens, its only 3 mins until the next round and stalemates have been known to go on for longer on occasion.

So while I'm not sure whether KotH is as fun as 5-CP, at least for me, it's usually more entertaining to watch.

I've personally never played on Bagel, but I've heard good things and would be excited to try it out to freshen things up. The last non-Viaduct KOTH map was Coalplant in S15, I believe, which didn't go well at all.

I played bagel, and granted it was in the sigafoo thing, but i thought i maybe had 1 too many entrances to cover for forward holds, but otherwise it was pretty cool.

I really like koth, dont really like bagel though but I still would prefer bagel over the bad 5cp maps.

I like playing viaduct because I'm a scout main and it's ez. I wouldn't mind playing other koth maps

However, I hate watching viaduct casts since it's a constant clusterfuck of teams pushing into each other. Feels like I'm watching someone cast a soap DM server with a bit more structure. Personally, I'd rather watch a ResidentSleeper 5cp game than any viaduct game

Forward holds have, in theory, been improved since sigafoo cup.

Part of the reason I made bagel was cause I'd love to see more koth maps in the rotation alongside viaduct, especially since a lot of teams just don't bother learning to play koth since theres only one in the pool.

Unlike 5cp, koth doesn't have stalemates, which are one of the biggest comp tf2 issues.

I think many people would like to see more good quality Koth maps in comp play.

I dont find stalemates in 5cp to be that bad, even watching high level gameplay. I think it's just a hard game to cast it can look like nothing is happening. Obviously you can still go full crowns and do nothing for a while but that's only when there's a lot on the line.

100% prefer koth, lack of stalemates = more fun to play and watch

coalplant deserves another play test now that the meta is a little different than 2 years ago

i think its pretty likely that there is a treasure trove of great competitive maps that already exists, just given the fact that there are hundreds and hundreds of maps that exist on tf2maps and the workshop that have never even been looked at for competitive. badlands wasnt designed for competitive, but it turned out to be a great competitive map. im sure maps exist that are community created exist and have never been tested, but would turn out to make great competitive maps if anyone had the drive to test them.
