I'm running a research study, and need TF2 players

Hello everyone,

I am a 4th year psychology student from Singapore doing my honours thesis project on video gaming and cognition, and this involves a research study featuring TF2. I initially recruited on reddit, but the response rate isn't great, so i thought i'd try here. If even 10 people respond, that's already a huge deal for me. So please consider taking part in my study. Here is an information sheet with most of the details: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1TSgaIOIabS5EAywosjyNEvIHj9y7RkvIKK8cKP5dw1E/edit?usp=sharing

Who can take part?

Adults aged 18-30, with no prior history of epilepsy or seizures. (Sorry to those who are not in this range)

What information do I need?

The questionnaires will ask about your age, sex, country of residence, ethnicity and education level. You will also need to check how much time you have spent playing TF2 in the past 2 weeks, and all Steam games in the past 2 weeks. Lastly, there is a questionnaire on how you identify with your video game avatar.

What will I need to do?

Other than the questionnaires above, you will need to play 30 minutes of TF2 and 30 minutes of The Way of Life, with a brief word sorting task after each half-hour block of gameplay.

How do I take part?

Read the information sheet in its entirety. If you are interested, send me a private message, and I will link you to a Google document with the step-by-step instructions. Unless you have any further questions, you can continue on your own thereafter.

Additional info

  • Participation is voluntary and you can stop anytime without explanation. However, please know that I can't use incomplete data.
  • Please play casual mode or on a community server with minimal mods.
  • Responses and data will be kept strictly confidential. No linking of data to usernames et cetera.
  • This study should be done in one sitting.
  • The questionnaires and tasks will take up to 20 minutes.
  • TF2 and The Way of Life are both free-to-play on Steam.

Apologies if it takes some hours to reply. I may be out or sleeping.

Sounds cool, we've had a few surveys like this before but with the link posted. Did you need extra followup afterward?

SaturniteI think you might have forgotten to post the survey.

All I see in the link is a warning about how TF2 might send me to the emergency room.
tf2researchIf you are interested, send me a private message

although he couldve made it a lil more obvious

the301stspartanWhy do u not use an online poll like everyone else?

Part of it is simple questionnaires, the rest of it is a reaction time task that needs to be done after gaming for a specified amount of time. Polls will not gather that data :)

A traditional thesis has a word limit of 15,000 in my university.

You could maybe link to the task in the poll. I'm just saying this because you'd probably get a ton more data that way. Nobody wants to PM people.

I can't cause on phone but good luck.

Can I still take part in this or was this due at semester? I can probably do it tomorrow.

Edit: Never mind; just saw the private message provision.
