_KermitWhat'd be nice is if they communicated with us, like acknowledging the retarded amount of cheaters that have been almost completely unpunished and what they will/want to do about them, or officially stating why they want to force viewmodels, or why they refuse to talk about class limits.

Honestly just something from them would be reassuring.

They won't.
I have so much I'd like to say on this subject but I'd rather not piss off the Valve dudes.
I would like to say though that I've emailed them more than a handful of times regarding cheats/exploits, ways to detect cheats, and ways they can improve VAC/make it harder for players to cheat and they've only ever replied to me once (When I sent source for F1 and Darkstorm which lmaobox had pretty much stolen most of its code from).

Honestly, it was a huge bummer to get no reply on topics I felt I really could help them out with. I would have much preferred to be old "No, we looked into those and it didn't work too well" rather than getting absolute silence in response.

I'd like to point out that who you email and a little bit of luck matters. Eric told me that Valve has some pretty strict spam filters that they can't individually control and unfortunately a fair amount of legitimate email tends to get lost due to that.

They also get a LOT of email.

And while that is true, it leaves me scratching my head when I do get emails from them...but it's regarding my tf2 medals.

I also had PMd Jill on Reddit at some point with the information that I previously mentioned in my post only to be told to send another email. So even if all my emails do get filtered for containing the words "cheat" and "vac" at least one of their employees are aware of all the information I've sent to them.

the problem with communication from a dev-to-customer standpoint is that it almost 100% of the time makes the customer more upset than if nothing had been said. Look at any of the 2011-2013 era kickstarters to see what I mean. The rift had a transparent dev process, which meant all the original goals were laid out and discussed with the community. When the goals got pared down into what was feasible, people were mad. When things took too long, people got mad. When things weren't 100% what the dev said they wanted, people got mad. Keeping quiet is attractive to Valve because it keeps them from making promises they can't keep. Saying "we want to make comp MM" and working behind the scenes meant no one went into it with expectations (theoretically at least), which meant valve was more free to follow different ideas and try out what they wanted to do. They're not commenting on viewmodels because 1. they dont have a 100% goal in mind for them except to make them look good in streams and 2. they don't want to say "we think we can work something out" and then have it not be feasible for their end goal because it would make everyone even more pissed than if we just had to get used to viewmodels in MM

there's a bit of a difference because we're getting angered by what valve is actually putting out without explaining it, rather than what they aren't or what they're thinking without publishing anything

Shanky"The matchmaking beta is cool and all, but can we disable viewmodels please? They're really distracting"
"OK, we'll now cap the viewmodel FOV to 54"
"What, we wanted to disable them, not make them even worse"
"Oh, sorry about that"
"So can we disable viewmodels now?"
"We'll try to make viewmodels transparent"
"Oh that's neat I guess. But will we be able to disable them outright?"
"OK we couldn't figure out how to make viewmodels transparent even though modders in the community who don't have access to the source code could figure it out so here's min viewmodels"
"What? Those are almost worse than stock because there's still something distracting on the screen, but now it doesn't even point to your crosshair. We just want to have absolutely nothing blocking our screens or moving around when we shoot because it doesn't convey anymore information than what the HUD does. Its unnecessary and distracting"
"OK, we'll fix a few, but not all animations and allow you to use viewmodel_fov 70"
"..."

Valve holy shit stop wasting time on changes that fucking no one cares about. People either don't give a rats arse about viewmodels, or they care a lot and want them off. Fixing animations or adding new positions is a waste of time considering matchmaking STILL puts people in 300 ping servers and doesn't let you pick what map you want to play and there are many blatantly broken unlocks etc etc. Priorities.

Like holy shit TF2 is never going to be a huge esport 9 years after release just let the remaining community enjoy the immense customisation this game used to allow while also enjoying a Smash-like renaissance.

No comp players are going to enjoy playing matchmaking with retard unlocks and restricted configs and forced viewmodels and no class limits and not being able to select a map (like holy shit why the fuck does casual let you select a map and not comp holy shit) when they can just organise a PUG with friends or randoms and play normal comp TF2 in a way that the community found was optimal AFTER NINE FUCKING YEARS OF PLAYTESTING.

pls stop making this game so hard to like I just want that damn major holy shit

although the update finally happened, there's still a lot of truth to senpai's lange's words
