so with my job i get a free colocated server and i've decided that i'm going to semi-donate it to the community. it's a sun ultra 20 with freebsd (preferably) 8GB of G.SKILL ram, an amd opteron 2200 @ 2.8ghz, 2 320gb drives in raid0 (for now), and it will be hosting teamspeak/vent/mumble servers which i will bring online when someone requests them.
essentially if you don't have a server or just need one for fucking around you can use mine for free, provided you fill out and submit the application that is currently being worked on. the server is hosted on the first plan here.
it should be online within a month, and i'll be sure to let anyone interested in using it know when it is!

Put SOAPDM on there and use it as a DM server when it's not reserved.

I think it's a cool idea and all, but it's kind of silly to post about it before you even have permission to make it happen. Seems like it'll be really easy to become unable to deliver on the promise.
I do hope it works out, though.

turns out i can install game servers, but i need to beef up the machine a little bit more than likely before i endeavor in that. :D

i knew i was allowed to do the voip element, i just needed clarification for the gameserver. i AM allowed to run a gameserver, i just need better hdd's and probably a more powerful cpu at some point which could be tough because the mobo has a weird socket (939, obscure amd silliness...). if all else fails i'll just swap the mobo for an lga1155/56 at some point :)

quick update- i got the wrong ram it turns out, and instead of rma-ing it i'm gonna buy a new lga1155 motherboard that will accept it so i can get an i5 to put in it. i don't imagine this will cause much of a delay, but we'll see!
