FPS is sub 20.

I've never played TF2 with higher than like 50 average FPS, but it's been getting so bad that I'm going to post here to see if there's anything I can do to help. I run Chris' Max Frames but I have the textures on the setting that make the game look normal.

My biggest issue is that when TF2 is running, there are usually like 4 other processes on my computer that take up all of my CPU power and leaves nothing for TF2 (I don't know anything about computers, but as far as I know that's what is going on).

http://i.imgur.com/c41vX.jpg

steam, ccc.exe, audiodg.exe and sometimes overlay just take over my computer, and hl never gets like over 20%. By all means it seems like I should be able to run TF2 so easily but for some reason I get unplayable FPS really often.

Does anyone know anything I can do? What I've been doing recently was turning off steam when I scrim but honestly that's pretty damn annoying.

If you have ingame overlay on, turn it off.

Would this mean any time I'm in TF2 I won't be able to steam chat or do anything like that? I've been doing that and it's so bad because it makes it like impossible to coordinate with my teams, and very difficult to run newbie mixes...

Settings > In-game, uncheck.

If you're using windowed/noborder, you can alt tab and still use chat. It's only useful for trading IMO. If you run fullscreen, then you would need it to chat and what not.

I have a lot of people that I talk to in steam and I really want to find a way to use steam and play tf2. I'll try to run windowed no border (but I think I'll have to turn off windows aero or whatnot). That sounds like a good idea because I can alt-tab very quickly but 80% of the time overlay doesn't work anyways lol.

Thanks for the help.

Errr... So these are my launch options:

-nocdaudio -console -novid -useforcedmparms -noforcemaccel -noforcemspd

Do I just add -windowed -noborder ?

It's been a *really* long time since I've touched my settings...

keep in mind that if you're running windowed/noborder you'll want to turn off Windows Aero so your fps doesn't dip even more.

specs? you should disable all unnecessary visual effects, processes and services.

visual effect: right click my computer>properties>advanced system settings>advanced tab>settings under performance>adjust for best performance

processes: win+r>msconfig>startup>disable all

services: win+r>msconfig>services>hide all microsoft services>disable all

alternatively you could reformat your disk and reinstall windows 7

ps. save these instructions on your pc so that if you disable something important(probably won't happen) like your wlan software or something you'd know how to revert everything back the way it was before.

Go to the Processes tab in the Task Manager, right click hl2.exe, Set Priority to High, if it's not already there.

Hi VickM! Please don't do anything about changing priority of TF2 (above normal at the absolute max) as it tends to cause stability issues and doesn't really do anything with performance anyway.

Someone posted on Ozfortress a couple days ago in a thread titled "Game Booster". It's some form of Razer software (which I found shifty and gimmicky sounding at first) but there's a few testimonials in there, one of which belongs to probably one of the most reliable people on Ozfortress.

From my understanding unfortunately, it requires you to own a Razer product, but I'm sure you may be able to acquire it/use it by "other" means.

Hope this may help you.

Also, you don't need the -noforcemaccel etc launch options - m_rawinput 1 overrides those (if you use it, anyway).

If anything, Lower your computer screen resolution as well as your tf2 res. I play on a 1080p monitor set to 720p res. I get much better performance, it should help you as well.

hooliservices: win+r>msconfig>services>hide all microsoft services>disable all

I'm doing this stuff now, but I can't tell what services are useful and what isn't. I'm looking some up on google but it seems like no one knows what half this shit does. Also, does anyone know if I'll see any benefit from making profiles on my graphics card software? Can I just disable AMD stuff? I read online their software (CCC.exe, FUEL service, etc.) are unnecessary unless you are switching around profiles often.

ikpureVickash Mohanka, I'm going to find you and kill you.

First of all, I already posted a picture of myself on tf.tv so I feel like my name doesn't mean all that much. Also, good luck getting to bumfuck massachusetts.

Yeah, I'm trying to set my res lower in my launch options, but then tf2 launches in that tiny ass window. How do I expand it?

most of the time it's just bloat. just disable all and then if you find that you're missing something go back and enable it. personally, the only services i have enabled are nvidia so i can access my nvidia control panel and diskeeper which defrags my disks. steam doesn't even require a service if you have uac disabled and that's why it's service isn't being loaded on my system even though it probably won't even matter.

Don't disable audiodg or you'll have no sound. There's a bug with it that causes the high cpu usage, which may or may not be fixable. Google about it (I read something a while ago about turning off enhancements I think). You can disable CCC.

Why do you still post? You've completely estranged yourself from the tf2 community and have shown no interest in coming back to the scene. I used to have a little respect for your knowledge but your assholery has completely eliminated that.

Also, thanks for the help hooli and everyone else.

Easy fix: buy (build) a new computer. Even playing at 50 is a huge drag.

I don't recommend game booster, it's not necessary and is just another process to run, it lowered my fps when I tried it previously.

ccc.exe = catalyst control center, right? I don't know who ATI's programmers are, but I have so many issues when that program gets installed. It causes display glitches, takes up a bunch of resources when it shouldn't be (I suspect it's creating some kind of conflicts with drivers...) and makes my computer chug more than it should.

I recommend completely uninstalling catalyst control center and especially uninstall the drivers for your video card to start from a clean slate. (goto control panel and add/remove programs..or whatever they call it now) . I can give you a more detailed walkthrough if you need.

Reboot and windows will install the latest display driver (you can check the version if you're concerned it's not the latest...when I've done it windows finds the latest catalyst driver without the control center crap that causes so many issues with my system)

Simply doing that fixed some big problems I was experiencing with ccc.exe taking up so much resources.

That is just one thing to try.

What are your system specs? i.e. CPU and graphics card.

Also, do you get any sound looping when you play?

1) I will never use one of those game booster things. They just aren't worth the trouble and the risk IMO.

2) I might take you up on that. If you like hats I have a couple lying around :)

3) I have a shitty system (laptop mobility graphics). AMD Turion II Ultra Dual Core mobile M600 2.4ghz and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4500/5100 Series, 4GB RAM.

4) I get sound looping in game when I do things like switch servers sometimes. I did Hooli and browny's advice and a lot of it went away.

no hats needed, I enjoy helping where I can as I know how frustrating it can be.

I'm usually not online until like 8pm+ PST on the weekdays but feel free to hit me up if you see me. Otherwise I will shoot you a message on steam when I'm on.

VickMI'm trying to set my res lower in my launch options, but then tf2 launches in that tiny ass window. How do I expand it?

you have to turn your monitor resolution down before you start tf2, it's a bit of a hassle, but it's worth extra frames. I have a 1080 monitor and play tf2 on 1440x900
