mobile auth / matchmaking problem

So I can't play matchmaking, despite having 7 beta passes, as I lost my phone so can't use the mobile authenticator. As far as I know, the only way to change the phone number on my steam account is by receiving a code on the phone - which I lost - and this is the only way I can move the mobile authenticator onto a new phone. :(
I've sent a ticket, but does anyone know any way around this or any way to solve this issue. Any help whatsoever greatly appreciated.
sorry if I sound like I'm just bitching at steam.

Did you not save the old revocation code? If not, that's your fault.
If you did go to steam-settings-account-manage steam guard security-hit remove authentication.
Then set up scrap.tf's steam desktop auth. Once you have it set up backup the folder to Dropbox or google drive so you never loose it.

I did save the recovery code but that doesn't help with changing which phone the authenticator is on.

You can't remove the authenticator by simply removing it from steam, the point is I want to move the authenticator to my new account and can only do so by changing the old phone number. Unfortunately, removing the authenticator doesn't change/remove the mobile number linked with the steam account and doesn't allow me to set up the auth on a new account.

lavanineThen set up scrap.tf's steam desktop auth. Once you have it set up backup the folder to Dropbox or google drive so you never loose it.

I've tried the desktop one but it asks for a code sent to the old phone number as I have the number linked to the account. This doesn't change if I switch whether the account is running mobile auth, email auth or none at all.

Click on your account name(top-right of your main Steam window), select 'Account Details' from the drop-down and click 'Manage Steam Guard', then click 'Remove Authenticator' and use your recovery code. This is a six-character code which you could view on your mobile phone by clicking 'My Recovery Code' in the Steam Guard tab of the mobile app.

If you don't have this code, you will have to contact your carrier to provide you with a SIM card which has the same phone number as the one you lost. If that's not an option, you will have to provide proof of account ownership to Steam support by showing them credit card or bank transfer information pertaining to an account you have previously used to purchase products through Steam. You can also submit product codes(CD keys) you've used to activate products on Steam to show that you are the owner of the account.

Best of luck.

Some reason when I clicked that it didn't ask me for the code.
I think somehow I already removed the authenticator but the phone number was still linked. :/
Thanks a bunch for your help anyway, I got steam to remove my phone number as my ticket finally went through :)
