Anyone else really hyped for this game? Releases midnight.

91 on Metacritic http://www.metacritic.com/game/pc/xcom-2

Huge fan of Enemy Unknown / Enemy Within and I even frequently played the original UFO Defense on my netbook when I was in college.

Considering the popularity of the Long War mod for Enemy Within, I am super excited to see what people can do with XCOM 2.

"We're providing a tool for Steam that anyone who buys the game will be able to get," McFall said at Firaxicon. "It works kind of like the mod tools for Civilization." The nuts and bolts: XCOM 2 players will not only have access to a Visual Studio isolated shell app for building mod projects, they will also have access to the Unreal editor Firaxis used to build the game as well as the script source code and roughly 50 GB of game assets.

I'm sat downstairs on my laptop while I wait for the download to finish, it was on like 75% last I checked after preloading it since around 4pm (if it's still not done soon I'll just sleep, only want to load the game up and play around with character pool for a bit anyway)

Super hyped for missing three 70% or above shots in a row in the opening mission because That's XCOM, Baby™

I've never played an XCOM game, but I think this could be my first!

Initial impressions playing on Commander:

Difficulty seems about right overall, I personally got royally RNG-fucked on my 2nd mission but that was just an insane run of bad luck. With that said, one of the things I got rekt by was the full-random enemy spawning; a Sectoid + Trooper pod spawned on a roof that I tried to take while still in concealment. A pod that I could only reveal, basically, by putting myself in a position where I'm stood right next to them, unless I'd decided to take the other roof (which granted would've been a better decision all-around but that brings me onto my next point)

It's DEFINITELY more punishing than EU/EW. You can't just Overwatch to victory like you used to be able to because of the timers, but equally if you play too aggressively and slip up you're almost certainly going to get destroyed for it. It bashes you over the head very early on with the realisation that mistakes WILL get you killed and risks ARE real risks, unlike EU/EW where sometimes it felt like any risk short of standing someone out in the open wasn't actually too worrying.

Absolutely brilliant game so far, but as you may have seen, very poorly optimized right now. Frighteningly so actually, TotalBiscuit was reporting mediocre-bordering-on-poor performance on his $4000-whatever gaming PC. Hopefully the issues are fixed soon in patches because it actually is inexcusable really. Turning down/off AA and AO seem to be significant in mitigating this for now though, noticeable FPS boosts and reduction in stuttery laggy weirdness from that on a lot of peoples' systems apparently.
