Do any of you think that any of the newly added maps have any potential to be played inside 6s? I really like byre as a map, but its arena. Would be cool if it would be remade as a koth map or smth.

I really wanna know how bad the collecting beer and crash the spaceship map would be in comp, if you get a level 3 at the top capping beer is really hard. But the map is fun none the less.

I'll try a serious answer

You have to consider that three of the four maps are game modes which are not played in 6v6. One is CTF, one is.. collect beer, and one is Arena. We can strike Arena from the list right away (right?), and.. even though Watergate is fun, I'm not sure that it's in the spirit of what we consider competitive gaming. I'm not sure that's the map we want to put forward when trying to get people to take our game seriously. I guess that's my issue with the KOTH map, Probed, too. It's based on a gimmick of being abducted and getting a buff from the spaceship, etc. Do we think that's a good or bad mechanic?

2fort is 2fort. I'm trying hard to not just dismiss it, but it's been tried for sixes before and has never gone over well. The map is very chokey and again, CTF mode.

Kind of a disjointed post, but overall I'd also say no. But I'd be curious to see people try it out. Open mind, right?

all for new maps & shit, but its the fact that most of them are gimmicky, and the only one that stands out (watergate) would be so easy to spawncamp its disgusting.

I personally love the headhunter map, but the map makes it so there are so many ways the winning team can just set up and keep rolling.

personally i like the concept of fragging turning into aoe health/ammo regen but idk how well itd translate to other gamemodes.

like it would certainly make the game pretty crazy if a scout with a streak going became a mobile level 3 dispenser for their team and make the game a 5-protect 1 except the 1 wouldnt always be the medic.

who knows, im just theorycrafting

I actually like how watergate plays, though I admit it would probably require a lot of tweaking for competitive. Additionally, it feels a bit too static compared with 6v6, as if the fights are concentrated across the same area over and over again, which incidentally, is part of my problem with KoTH.

watergate, or player death as a gamemode in its current setup, doesn't work as a competitive gamemode because it is far too swingy. if one player dies and that player had all of the beers, then the momentum of the game does a complete 180 immediately. dont get me wrong, it's an awesome gamemode in a pub, but the mechanics of the game in a competitive format would lead to the team with the lead hiding in their base for fear of a swinging comeback

I'm kind of curious if there is any interest in a legit pro version of probed. Silly gimmicks removed, turned to day time, probably a couple other tweaks. Not sure if the layout is worth it? I sort of feel like the shape of it might amplify the shooting-from-the-right-side imbalanced nature of mirrored maps.

Any thoughts? Is it worth the effort?

That or koth_casualbed was the plan if I ever did it. :)
