capnfapnThis might be a little over the top but making it so that it forces you to prove that you have a mic when you register would be nice.

I think this is a bad idea. However, my opinion here is mostly irrelevant because there is no decent way to implement this in the first place.

mariotranchemusicCan we please have something to encourage people to actually try to contribute, and not just be useless on purpose? Half of games on tf2lobby completely consist of trolling.
Unless there is some way to change this there is no reason for me, or many others like me that actually want to learn the game, to use lobby or any alternative site.

Might be different in Europe but I have always found lobbys to be pretty good on the trolling side myself. Almost everyone on there thinks they are amazing and think every one else is inferior and therefore there never is good team play but thats not the same as trolling.

Biggest problem with lobbys is that if you're new you will never get a game, everybody will just kick you. Attitudes like that are holding comp. TF2 back.

-SalI think its going to be pretty hard for players who often play at tf2lobby, transition themselves to tf2center, because most of them don't even know that much about the community, for example: knowing the website, tf.tv.

Spam lobby chat enough and eventually people will probably know about the site. Just ask tragic.

TacoThis will be great
No more terrible medics that don't know how to play or people readying up as pyro

Well, lobby medics are usually terrible because they're new and therefore have no gamesense, and no one comms so they have no idea what to do. You are totally dependent on your own gamesense and awareness when no one is communicating, so it's really difficult for new players.

The site should be welcoming to new players, and allow them to play with higher-skilled players so they can actually learn and improve. What is needed is some mechanism to balance teams based on ELOs or something, so it's not like 75% of lobbies where all the new players end up on one team to get rolled. Also, maybe some built-in reminders for new players to learn rollouts before playing demo, maybe get a little experience on other classes before trying medic, etc.

A karma system that actually does something would be great too. Players who troll/offclass constantly or leave matches early should be (IP) banned for progressively longer periods of time.

If Mumble integration was in any way viable, I feel like that would be one of the best possible things that could be done for this.

Regarding the name, if you say "TF2 center dot com" a lot of the world will instinctively spell it differently. So yeah it's a bad name. Captains and Mumble are necessary.

Agreed. Forwarding tf2centre.com to tf2center.com should solve this.

If captains and Mumble are integrated, what is the difference from tf2mix? A lot of the time when I play lobbies it's because I want to stay in my own Mumble and talk with friends. I guess Mumble comms are kind of necessary, but requiring it might limit the audience for that kind of site. Also, I think teams based on player ELOs might be more effective than captaining, if someone can come up with a good way to calculate it (which might be pretty difficult). Even when I used to play lobbies constantly, I still didn't know most of the people playing.

I know 0 about this, but possibly get in contact with enigma about integrating it with teamfortress.tv as well. Having a tab next to "IRC Chat" up at the top would just give me the biggest, uncomfortable boner. as well as making tf tv the one stop shop for all your tf2 needs.

It only makes sense to use the same ELO system as games like HON, since it's basically the same scenario.

There's flaws in all ELO systems where there are multi-person teams, but basing it only on team W/L is pretty much the only way to do it correctly, and it does get pretty accurate as more matches are played.

I hadn't heard of tf2mix. It's American-only and requires IRC. A global version using a slick web interface is exactly what we're all looking for.

tf2mix also only has Dallas servers, which are terrible if you live in Canada

It's too bad it completely killed off tf2.pug

OP do you know what framework/backend you're going to use?

Just checking whether this is vaporware, considering you're new to Steam and TF2, and all you posted was a page with some html tags and some extremely ambitious ideas.

Please make this 6s only. Tf2lobby is nothing but hl now. There should also be a working karma system. After a certain amount of negative karma it should be a temporary ban.

It'd be great if the matchmaking system could at least attempt to balance the teams. Lobbies are generally rolls, especially when there are new players in classes like Medic or Demo.

Make sure no country has an extreme ping at the nearest server, it'd suck if the lowest ping you could get through the matches was over 150.

Very interested in the results, good luck! The community is with you.

Making it 6s only would only isolate the community further. We don't need that.

What's wrong with highlander? People should be able to play what they want. Separate MMR for each mode though.

How would you rank players?

Based on points, frags, team wins? In a team-centered game like TF2 its hard to develop some stable ranking system between players. If ranking is based on team wins, many people will get really mad when they're matched up with someone of lower skill level who ends up losing the round for them. It's simply too unreliable imo

I don't know if this is possible, but if so; try to see if you can enable ESEA players to use the pug servers there to fill those up. It would fill up those servers, and after reading this;

after talking with torbull @ lan we shouldn't be too concerned, but we should try to get esea pug system more used.

from Harbleu, it might show ESEA that we are still growing.

As for the Ranking system, I can only suggest the system that fighting games use. I see it work quite well, and there's no "uneven" match except when you start your very first time.

Thanks for the feedback. This site is all about the community. We want all of your suggestions for the site, and we have already taken quite a few!

The launch for the site is most likely going to be in early 2013, probably something like March. But if anyone of you out there is or knows a web designer, it might help speed up the process! Please add me on steam to discuss if you do, since it would really help!

This seems like a lot of stuff to go through when we have things like this. It isn't that difficult to go to pugna or mix and type !add class. Also you could just get some friends together and host a private lobby if you are really wanting this. I'm just saying that we don't have to waste money for something to be more organized and up to par.

I think the best draw of what's being promised is the rec/ref tournaments

aimIt isn't that difficult to go to pugna or mix and type !add class

You say that, but so do a lot of people about making lines in art. That's not the easy part, space and colors are, just like "the semicolon in most programming" (just for an example) being the hard part when people always think it's the

Once they're there in the organized match with everything set up right, learning the game is e-z. The hard part is adding up. Having a proper graphical interface and graphical hub for it makes it easier. It's still hard, but you want to remove as many barriers to getting ingame as possible, because ingame is all the game is about. For the absolute newb, which is the only main group of person we're gonna get in by doing anything like this, that's how it goes.

oh lookie another IRC client

this new way to interact with the existing text interface is going to redefine the newb's pickup game standards

totally

i'm a huge proponent of IRC and that's so severe that I go as far as to use a terminal based IRC client, but really, however much the interactive bot interface works for people who care for it, it's meaningless to all the people who are legitimately put off by it. it's not part of the game, pushing it on people as the only legitimate way to take part in pickup games is making a viral ideology.
