So as some of you guys may know, I enjoy photography and would like to somehow do more of it.
Unfortunately this is a hard field to enter and make it in, I've already asked one esports org with no luck.
But I just thought of an idea and would like to hear what other people think.
I will be going to this upcoming ESEA LAN to provide coverage once again and was trying to think of a way to get there without losing money to go work. I don't like the idea of straight up asking for donations but a thought crossed my mind and this is what i wanna ask and get responses on.
What if, instead of working for an organization or event, instead I work for fans.
Fans could help send me to events to get photos and coverage of their favorite players, streamers and etc
I get to do work that I enjoy and hopefully people that are "hiring"(donating pretty much i guess) me get content they like.
TLDR - Its pretty much crowdfunding me to be a esports photographer

this sounds like something you could accomplish with patreon. the idea is that it's a monthly "subscription" (like a monthly kickstarter almost), and people who back you get first access to content and so on.
i'm phrasing it awkwardly but imo it fits what you're talking about.

it would be more justified if you produce more content than just a photo gallery. I could see someone donating if it led to a documentary which would probably require multiple lan trips and i dont know if that would lead to anything in TF2. A good opportunity could have been following 4G around for the ESEA->i52->GXL-ESEA run. At this point if you're trying to produce content in e-sports and get paid for it I would look at dota2 or csgo

I feel like you would get nowhere near enough money(donations) to be sent anywhere without taking a loss. People just do not care enough to pay for pictures/videos when they can have shade or others upload to youtube just because they want to.

TBH your photos are great and all but most people would not pay for them. Best videos are still shade trying to get glimpses of mansky. To be honest tf2 community is so small that there is no space for a professional photographer. Dunno, if you are really looking forward to doing esports related work tf2 is not the right place. I would suggest counter strike or dota 2. With you expertise and knowledge id love to see you be known in the csgo community. Maybe stream more serious cs or casts. Then again maybe you don't like cs. To answer you question as much as i'd love to support you no its probably not a good monetary solution.

If you're open to more then just tf2 stuff, photographers are pretty prevalent at fighting game events, if you can get those clean shots of the players, people love those. Not sure if they get paid, but I guess its exposure, if there happens to be one near by to you.

The big issue with esports photography and photography in general today is that people ask their buddy with a camera phone or cheap point n shoot to get photos for free. Those photos end up being awful quality and they don't get distributed well.
Having good photos is a very important part of advertisement and publicity but unfortunately the market for this work is getting poopied on and its makin me real sad :(

i think its a great idea(considering that no one really produces content for esea lans anymore) but asking for money donations is a little bit rough. Plus I don't think most people would want to donate because no ones really asking for the content. If there was a like campaign thing where like 40-50 people wanted you to go to lan and get content I see this going the other direction.

your probably gonna have to go to a few events on your own money and build up some kind of portfolio before you have any chance of people donating or sponsoring you, but in a market as small as tf2 I doubt many people would.
Maybe make a couple prints of your favourite/best photos and try to sell those?
