I had to backup a friends images and files which I was able to zip up into 2 12gb winrar archives.

Thing is, it'll take years to upload that and put it on a disc.

Is there a way to compress these files so its easier to upload to a site like dropbox or google drive?

7zip can compress files a bit more with their .7z format and it's free and open source

if you wanna stay with winrar, make sure you're using the best compression settings (i think it's the Optimize option)
