GoobledegakFerskinFuck dude whats the point of making another international lan if we all know 4g is going to roll everyone? I'm not trying to sound rude or have lack of faith but seriously whats the point. There's more to lan than just the tf2

I think he meant sending tf2 teams over. Of course the iseries happens without tf2.

ubersexuals or whatever they're called actually has a pretty amazing roster

mike is the best soldier in the world, numlocked was the best not-banny demo in the world, mirelin is the best not-knoxxx medic in eu, knoxxx got top dpm in prem or something when he last played pocket, and smzi/kiler are sick scouts

there's plenty of time for them to gel and de-rust between now and i55

i think they can make it close

It's 96% sure I'll be there but for work, not to play. Will still grab multiple beers with anyone present.

BUICKTaking off a month for it, Euroland friends help me fill that month with other things next to i55.

You could swing by in Cologne, Germany, for Gamescom from Aug 5-9.

If no organisation shows up to cast, Beta and I will sit down and commentate the games for you.

Otherwise, good luck with the event! Hopefully TF2 can keep up the quality it's thrown out there in the last few years!

You guys were amazing at i49. Even though the casting and everything at i52 was top notch, I was still a bit sad you weren't casting together, you made i49 great. :3 real tf2 happens when Arx and Beta cast

Sorry, i just realised that I'd never mentioned that before...

i know its very early but is there any word on whether there will there be a possible fundraiser for an american team? or is there just not enough interest in the community for it?

its called the game of life where the american teams get jobs and don't beg the community for money.

none of us in suave/ubersexuals have enough time to or desire to practice 4 nights a week (at least, inc demo reviews and keen dm) for 6/7 months (still less than the 11/12 months of i49 epsilon) to assume we can win i55 (if it's an intercontinental LAN) again.

The only team in eu atm with the kinda players with this mindset and dedication are probably reason, but with some of their lineup (e.g. wltrs hasn't been to a LAN in how many years? And kaptain and hafficool having never been to LANs) it seems unlikely they'd be able to win even if they did stick around until i55 and go hard.

flamei have a new game suggestion for i55:

lot of ignorance here

the community has always funded travel for american teams in order to provide entertainment to the community in the form of a high level tournament. otherwise, it doesn't make any sense for any american team to fund the trip out of pocket based on the prize pool.

ESEA-S17 Lan 1st Place: $6360
i52 1st Place: $3810

for i52 where we sent two teams with community funding, both us and mixup spent $600-$800 out of pocket per player on the trip to cover basic costs. our team broke even in terms of expenses and mixup likely lost money on the trip overall (they earned $1300 for 3rd place).

point being: if we paid out of pocket, we'd be losing nearly $4000 at best when we have nothing to prove. immunity has had it much worse than us as well, paying their way to the tournament twice with higher costs. the tournament has always been about the competition, and it makes no financial sense for us or immunity to go without funding considering the costs.

That's why people like you are the real MVP.

Also regarding what Mike said, I can also add in that we have Mirelin's passion, the bond that allows us to overcome any difficulties <3 (at least for this season).

I think a contributing factor is how expensive LAN is becoming every year, coupled with hotels being ages away and absolutely shit it's kinda difficult to get the motivation for these LANs again, I used to go to the Easter & Summer ones but to me it's just not as convenient as Telford was, coupled with it turning in to Minecon has just sort of made it feel poor to me.

I would kill for an alternative LAN to go to for the TF2 community to meet up and play games, naturally there won't be many places that would be able to offer us such services as Multiplay currently do. I also feel that after i55 it seems like the effort that a lot of community members put in to everything could again be spoiled by a sub par grand finals (production wise, not because of how much dick I choked on on the stage).

If a newer and less experienced team from NA (looking at you, 20b and Elev) or Australia (maybe the team that won last season or a new superteam?) were to prove that they're really motivated and are going to work really hard to become the best they can possibly be, then I would unhesitatingly give as much as I could possibly spare to their fundraiser. Don't get me wrong, I love watching top level TF2 and I'll give to the fundraiser no matter who's going. But my point is just that I would rather see 20b train really hard, give it their all, and lose in the final than see 4g win again with little effort (ideally we would send 2 teams again and get to see both, but you get my point).

A few people still say comp TF2 is dying, lots of people say TF2 was never alive to begin with, but I don't care about that. I know that if we want to keep what we've got and build on it, then we need to see the next generation of top players start to go to international Lans and compete with the top experienced players. That's how they will become the best players in their region, before eventually the next new generation of players will come in and take their place. If we as a community maintain that cycle, that's what will keep TF2 alive.

To me at least, i55 seems like the perfect place to begin to do that.

WARHURYEAHI also feel that after i55 it seems like the effort that a lot of community members put in to everything could again be spoiled by a sub par grand finals (production wise, not because of how much dick I choked on on the stage).

Yeah I was quite miffed at the way the finals was handled production wise, the 10am start time being the least of it. We still had 8k+ viewers, would have been better later in the day but I'm still pleased with what we pulled for possibly the worst viewership time of the day.
It started out good, they had heard we had our own overlay stuff so they asked for us to get it on their stream so Atmo and Bluee managed to throw together a screenshot of the overlay they could put on stream with casters/streamer etc. Then when they found out I needed to be able to hear what Lange and Admirable were saying and currently had no way of doing that, they grabbed a speaker and set it up right next to me without hesitation so I could hear what was going on.
That's all well and good, certainly above and beyond what they were required to do, but what pissed me off is how little they seemed to care past that point. Opening the logs was nice but in the fucking steam overlay window? I suppose some people thought that was on my machine but nope. To top it off, they weren't even concentrating for the start of the second map and I had to get up and shout at them to change the scene to the gameplay because they were all having a chat and not paying attention. Before the finals had started they were bugging me about how long it was going to take as though I have any idea about when the players are going to be ready and then at the end of the game they booted Lange and Admirable as fast as they could to prepare for the CSGO finals which didn't even end up starting until like 2 or 3 hours later and was like an hour late if memory serves.
Interesting parallel to draw, the production of the finals compared to the production of the rest of the event was like the quality of the finals game compared to the rest of the event.

Smithsonianto be perfectly honest as much as i'd love to see aussies at i55, if it wasn't iM i most likely wouldn't be interested in donating. No clue if they're going though, really want to see them give it another shot after how good some of the games last year were.

on another topic will we see an i52 frag vid before i55? Cause if huhy is still claiming lack of hard drive space as a factor maybe the project should be passed on to someone else if someone is willing?

is cube and bones making another documentary as well?
that'd be cool

the only info regarding a i52 vid was huhy posting a screenshot of a DICKTONNE of clips that he'd already started working on but then had to stop work cause his hard drive wasn't big enough to make the video
