if viewmodels are off, the only way viewmodel_fov affects you is whether or not you see tracers (and where they come from, I think).

frknif viewmodels are off, the only way viewmodel_fov affects you is whether or not you see tracers (and where they come from, I think).

I don't think so, the viewmodel_fov cvar has no effect when vmodels aren't drawn. Tracers don't fire from a different spot on the screen when the viewmodel_fov variable is higher, and how much you preceive hitscan weapon tracers is (I think) dictated by another cvar, which is (I think) mp_decals.

I might be wrong, though.

*Edit for BigTicket, if you want a specific vmodel fov for when you do play with vmodels, you can just write that value in your autoexec, too.
Edit2, sorry, I was wrong, thanks dave

Don't apply any settings in either the options/advanced options and it won't change your viewmodel_fov. Viewmodel_fov still affects you if you have viewmodels on or not, as you can see the bullets (we call them tracers) coming out of your gun. Basically, it just puts the tracers + sparks where the viewmodel would've been if you had viewmodels on and just doesn't draw the gun.

viewmodel_fov 0 (no tracers/sparks)
viewmodel_fov .001 (sparks, but no tracers)
viewmodel_fov -100 (sparks+tracers are in the middle of the screen)
viewmodel_fov 5 (sparks+tracers come out of the lower right hand corner of the screen)
