ESEA S12 LAN Preview: Classic Mixup

This weekend will serve as the victory lap and last hurrah for the greatest lineup in Team Fortress 2 history, if everything goes according to plan... and why wouldn't it?

[/flag]Classic Mixup dazzled Team Fortress 2 fans the world over when they blitzed Europeans and Americans alike at i46, crushing the competition at the biggest TF2 event in history, and they continued their dominance during the ESEA regular season, posting a 16-0 record while dropping three or more rounds in a match only a single time.

[/flag]LG came close to toppling Mixup at i46, but they lost one of their two superstar players during the season, and while Hero is a talented player and solid proxy for clkwrk in terms of style on the scout class, he’s not clkwrk. You could talk up the 5-4 win over Leviathan Gaming on cp_process, but that’s just playing things up for the sake of a narrative.

Both [/flag]LG and [/flag]Whales certainly have the ability to crash Mixup’s party, but the fact is, it’s still Mixup’s party. Mixup has the talent and TF2 smarts to win by keeping things simple and playing their game, and they believe that, too. The impetus is on LG and Whales to do something special to compete.

One wild card is Mixup’s medic. [/flag]PYYYOUR has a tendency to let his emotions get the best of him, and that can have dire results during a hotly contested match, but the fact is that no medic is perfect and he’s held up for more tournament wins than any other medic out there, so it’s hard to bet against him.

If Mixup has to face defeat early in the LAN, it could doom them as a team that’s never dealt with it before, similar to the collapse of [/flag]Mihaly’s Flow last season. Their #1 seed secures them a game against [/flag]Chess Club to start the LAN, affording them an opportunity to avoid getting caught cold and off guard, allowing them to acclimate to LAN in a match with little risk.

There’s not much else to say, really. Most of these articles have some kind of roster rundown filled with inside jokes and superlatives, but what’s the point? These guys are most of the best players at their classes, and everyone knows it.

This LAN is all about Mixup, and putting the finishing touches on the best season of TF2 ever. Or completely blowing it. That could be just as fun, if not for Vhalin laughing somewhere in the distance grinning about undefeated seasons.

They are not breaking up, but this lineup won't be the same as a couple people will most likely be leaving. I suppose it's possible that changes, but probably not since there isn't another European LAN to motivate people the same way it did this season.

I'm think it's safe to assume Pyyyour, and Ruwin will leave, and maybe one other will leave. There will probably be three people staying.

I'd expect Platinum and Enigma to be two who will stay, they've been playing together for seasons.
