Hey, anyone else here have type 1 diabetes?

I'm a type 1 diabetic gamer, have had it since 2001. I was just wondering if anyone else has this shitty disease..

also i've noticed something about type 1: it's pretty common knowledge that when your numbers are high, you're impaired quite a bit. I've been noticing (as my control has gotten a lot better) that there's a HUGE link between my numbers and my ability to play tf2, & my attitude while playing. a tip to any diabetic gamers--if you're noticing that you get frustrated easily at tf2, or miss a weird number of shots, don't get too down on yourself. Test your numbers, i bet you're running a high. I haven't had any really great games or been really "in the zone" while running a high.

And then obviously being low playing is a really bad idea. I got lost and ran in the wrong direction when i played a pug and got really low, lol.

my brother does, it made him quit videogames because he was so competitive that even losing pubs due to his bloodsugar made him mad

I always think I can play with a high blood sugar until I get in game. I had a match the other night where I came out wondering why I played worse than usual, then checked my blood sugar and saw it was 560.
And while I almost never rage, playing with high or low blood sugar makes it much easier to get in my head.

2cwhat's high blood sugar do to u that causes impairment

Makes you feel pretty sick in general. Harder to play/do anything with nausea, constant thirst/need to pee, pounding headache, stomaches, etc. Slower reaction times, general loss of motor control as well. Also makes my joints ache and my breath smell really fruity. It's not as bad as that sounds, sometimes it's subtle and I don't notice I'm high for some time, but sometimes it all comes at once.

for me, it's like

if you drink coffee every morning, think about if you haven't had coffee yet. It's basically like that. you really can't think clearly and everything is sort of foggy. It makes me get set off by seemingly random things, I can get really frustrated for no reason whatsoever. And it also makes it significantly tougher to do anything physical or involving coordination. Also, if i eat anything while high, i get pretty sick and feel really uneasy.

It's more subtle though, because it actually affects your ability to tell what's wrong. Not completely, if you think about it hard you can figure it out, but it makes you significantly more absent minded in general.

being low is a lot worse than being high according to my brother but he manages it super well so he never goes above like 300 (i'm not sure what number that would be on the 0-10 measuring system)

Being low is worse, but it's also a lot easier to notice because the effects are immediately noticeable. It's also a lot easier to manage, just take some glucose or food and you'll be fine in 15 minutes. I've had high blood sugars persist for over a week, despite complete fasting and using a month's supply of insulin in that same week.

I don't have diabetes, but I have periodic bouts of hypoglycemia. When it hits me, I start to become increasingly irritable and my concentration suffers. The worst part is that I don't realize it's happening, so my teammates have to tell me. Usually I can eat something with any type of sugar and things will return to normal within a few minutes.
