I don't understand why you would want a plot from the short. What's funny about TF2's "story" is that Valve made the game and the story was a complete afterthought, so they decided to just make it as stupid and incoherent as they possibly could while still offering an explanation for what appears in-game. If you really expect a heart-wrenching drama from a group consisting of an overconfident Boston boy, redneck army man, mentally-ill pyromaniac, perpetually drunk Scottish demolition man, gun loving Russian brute, Texan oil drill engineer, insane German "doctor", creepily prideful Australian mercenary and sneaky French assassin/charmer, you really need to rethink if you're directing your expectations at the correct thing here.

tl;dr Go watch a film instead of playing a cartoonesque FPS for your narrative needs.

boulderhype and potential content aside, was anyone else as disappointed as I was with the plot from this short?

I agree with everything you said, but I disagree that it was disappointing. To me it felt like Loony Tunes or something of the sort. If they serialize this then it will be a funny series that I will look forward to, but if they treat this as a one-off sort of thing, then I will share your disappointment.

So I guess I'm sort of agreeing with Osiris, but not with the way he made his point.

Some parts of the plot are cliche and familiar but it still overall was done with great quality(animation, jokes, etc.)

Also it's still alot more interesting then Meet the Pyro ever was.

I was a little disappointed too but I think I'm just not as invested in the characters/plot as I used to be. Would have preferred a lot more of the other classes instead of just spy and scout personally.

I just love the fact that Scout ended up doing the Carlton dance in that montage.

If you ask me this sounds like the perfect cast for a great action-thriller movie.

Exactly, but that is why action-thrillers don't have a gripping story: because that's not what you expect or want from them. It's about the action and the thrills, not about the story. The story is just a medium for the action, which is exactly what Valve does with the comics and short videos. I just don't understand why people expect a narrative in a TF2 short, it's like expecting a Jean-Claude van Damme film to win an Academy Award for best writing. You end up with a Call of Duty single player campaign disaster when you ask for that; I'd much rather have something which is just entertaining and knows what it is than some pretentious and uncharacteristic grand work.

OsirisI don't understand...

it's not that i want a plot, the shorts all already have plots. along with the comics that valve has been releasing, the shorts have established a narrative to the game that's both interesting and adds to the entertainment value. that's what plots usually do to games when they're done well. also "stupid and incoherent" isn't at all how i (and likely a multitude of other people) would describe the overarching plot and how it's developed so far. there's obviously been a lot of careful thought put into the personalities and backstories of each character, as well as the universe itself.

on another note, i think it's pretty clear that i don't have a "heart-wrenching drama" in mind with regard to tf2's plot. but to say that tf2 doesn't need an interesting or compelling narrative is completely silly considering that, funny enough, it already has one.

all i'm saying is that the most recent short didn't have a very interesting plot; unlike many of the others, which always sortof had a wonderous aspect included that introduced us to the tf2 world a little more. the focus placed on the inclusion of this polly(?) character and the relationship with scout (whose role in the tf2 universe i still don't fully understand. is she their manager?), felt forced and like she (and it) didn't really belong.

there were a couple moments where the voice acting sounded a bit weird, but i really couldn't give a fuck about that...
