Demos randomly crashing

Im trying to play a demo i downloaded and it randomly crashes, Ive tried using two different demos and it does the same thing. When i use one of my own demos im able to play the whole thing through without any problems. Anyone know a fix

try mat_queue_mode 0 before loading the demo

i could be wrong, but isn't mat_queue_mode -1 the fix for demo crashing?
