before the last couple of weeks, i had had tf2 crash only a handful of times in 3-4 years of playing.
now, i'm getting multiple crashes a day, sometimes as consistent as ~1 every half-hour.

any idea what changed? it started before the 05/15 update, and seems to be a bit more frequent on an alt i made a week ago, and i'm kind of wondering if that only made it worse.

any help would be much appreciated!

Is your steam also crashing? My game yesterday would just stop responding and my steam would crash for some reason. I had to refresh steam files or whatever, this is an how to if you have the problem I described: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3134-TIAL-4638

I have this exact problem. I was searching all night last night for a fix. I'll try this. Hopefully this will work.

I thought it was working, but after about an hour or so I crashed again with steam closing completely and tf2 not responding. I'm on 8.1 and the instructions on the support site only say XP/Vista/7, so I dunno if it will work for me. I followed them anyway, but I'm still crashing.

Note that if you have a Steam library on a second drive Steam will forget that it exists; however they games are still installed. Just remake the library (by beginning to install one of the games in it and changing the path on the dropdown menu, or Steam>Settings>Downloads>Steam Library Folders>Add Library Folder), making sure to make the SteamLibrary folder the end of the filepath.

Did this and nearly had a heart attack when all my games on my E Drive (Like 90% of my installed games) disappeared

I've been crashing after refreshing steam files so that didn't fix it. I think we just need to wait for valve to fix it for us I guess.

This has been happening to me as well. I think I've lost atleast 10% reliability on tf2center just today because of it.

I've also had weird crashes since the update although I'm not sure if it's the same bug as it normally only happened when I joined a server (and went away from the computer for a few minutes to let it load, damn toasters) and steam stayed open every time although one time when I re-opened tf2 it was in unverified/cracked whatever mode and wouldn't let me join proper servers, had to reboot steam to fix that one.

Yeah, it's been said over and over at this point, but crashing has increased significantly since the last update. Seems to be universal and I can't find any trends with why I crash...

Im assuming everyone here has 8.1. I have a handful of friends that i play with and they all crash on csgo and tf2. We think its the last 8.1 update. Im running win7 so i have not experienced the crashes. I don't think that anyone currently has a fix.

My toaster's still on xp, and our other computer is win8 (not sure whether 8.1?) and hasn't been crashing at all.

Same here, funny part is that mine crashes sometimes if i don't have a custom hud installed, but if i do, it crashes 100% of the time.

BlueberryVillainwhat video card do you have Redd?

GeForce GTX 600M
but since a lot of people are crashing i doubt that's the problem. it seems to be a combination of windows 8 or 8.1 with a tf2 update, although i started crashing a couple of weeks before the update.

According to this thread, no other fixes so far really. I too have this problem on win 8, but turning off steam overlay in game seems to reduce the amount of crashing for me.
