So, I was yaking at bloodsire after the cast last night and schwan has suggested I do the same on a few occasions. So I'm gonna use tf.tv off topic to pilot a few ideas by ya'll since even though most of us are video game addicted types, it's a fairly decent cutting of people who would generally use the internet - and I don't wanna' put a lot of effort into making something like a podcast that nobody will find even remotely interesting. So, here's a simple run through example. This will be a short textual rendition of say, a topic I think people would find generally humorous and interesting which I happen to know a bit about.

Shit talking in history.

World War 1 - the Willy and Nikky Telegraphs/grams.

The night before World War 1 broke out in Europe, Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany and Czar Nicholas II of Russia took to shit-talking each other over the telegraph - at the time telegraphing was the best way to shit-talk somebody as it was basically the fastest form of communication available. Nicholas II and Wilhelm II were also cousins (as most of Europe's royal houses were closely related to one another by 1914). They had also grown up together. Their affectionate nicknames for each other - Willy and Nikky - come from the names they used as children while learning English together. They also sent each other a series of telegrams in July prior to the outbreak of the war which demonstrates that they were, for all intents and purposes, close friends

The nice telegrams

For example : Nikky to Willy

I am glad you are back. In this serious moment, I appeal to you to help me. An ignoble war has been declared to a weak country. The indignation in Russia shared fully by me is enormous. I foresee that very soon I shall be overwhelmed by the pressure forced upon me and be forced to take extreme measures which will lead to war. To try and avoid such a calamity as a European war I beg you in the name of our old friendship to do what you can to stop your allies from going too far.

Willy to Nikky:

It is with the gravest concern that I hear of the impression which the action of Austria against Serbia is creating in your country. The unscrupulous agitation that has been going on in Serbia for years has resulted in the outrageous crime... The spirit that led Serbians to murder their own king and his wife still dominates the country...

On the other hand, I fully understand how difficult it is for you and your Government to face the drift of your public opinion. Therefore, with regard to the hearty and tender friendship which binds us both from long ago with firm ties, I am exerting my...influence to induce the Austrians to...arrive to a satisfactory understanding with you. I confidently hope that you will help me in my efforts to smooth over difficulties that may still arise.

Your very sincere and devoted friend and cousin

Willy

All of their telegrams from this period are very friendly (so friendly that Nicholas II even cancelled plans for mobilization for a few days), and show two men, friends from childhood, trying to avert one of the greatest catastrophes in European history.

The night before war broke out in Europe however their communications were very different:

"The might of the Russias will crush your tiny Germany beneath her like a steam roller" - Nikky to Willy

And the last message exchanged:

"Nikky, I don't see what hope you can have - you were never even fit to farm turnips" Willy to Nikky

The Kaiser's government would fall and he would spend the rest of his days in exile in the Netherlands - Czar Nicholas II would ultimately die during the war - executed by revolutionaries.

In essence I would just go into a bit more detail about Willy and Nikky's relationship, read a bit more of the telegraphs, explain what they're talking about, etc and enjoy the shit-talking and my over all goal of making historical figures and events relatable.

So lemme know - interesting? Worth while? Or boring as shit kill me now?

I'd listen to weekly/biweekly (or other semi-regular installments) 30 minute podcasts, and I'd donate if the quality was good enough.

Have you seen Drunk History? It seems sort of like the same concept except that they have the ability to reenact the scenes and make it more visual. Or you could go the style of Prairie Home Companion and use voice actors. Basically you need to make it feel as if people are watching the scene unfold or can easily envision it happening and in an entertaining/original way in order to avoid it seeming like a history lecture. Sounds like a good idea though, good luck!

Yeah I'm familiar with drunk history - except sadly when I drink and talk about history it's always morbidly depressing sorts of things - but that's what happens when you specialize in the 1930's. My intent would be to tell interesting/funny things that I happen to be slightly familiar with that are also true as far as anybody knows lol. My intention would be to produce something that you could *maybe* watch if you are really bored - but it'd more or less be something you could listen to in the car or while you do something else since people tend to always have something on.

Why would somebody watch this show? Because it's on tv - says George in Seinfeld.

I would like to teach history but not quite there yet - gotta finish grad schoolz lol
