Free internet that's way the fuck better than anything Comcast or AT&T is providing, for a one-time construction fee. The catch is that Google provides ALL of your content and gets to monitor every last bit of it. They've shown they don't really care for any kind of censorship, so it's really just a privacy concern.
I really can't wait until fiber is mainstream enough that it could go multi-continental. Imagine good pings internationally for all players. Games like tf2 could work with just one league.
#8 thanks for the correction. I'm not very wizened up on how internet/ping works.
drill fiber directly through the earths crust to its exact destination for optimal ping

#8 Someone mentioned this in some other thread but apparently NY to UK is 2ms at the speed of light. So a change there isn't really needed.
Tornadoes RARELY happen in kansas. I should know, i live here.
free internet in exchange for all of your personal information
the speed of light isn't the limiting factor, its the delay in the hardware at the switches/hubs/routing centers

As well as looking up address entries in DNS tables, medium access control and error correction.

So say in the future, can you get west coast to europe with sub 50 ping?
Huh. They found a way to make me want to live in Kansas City.
I wish we could get some over here, but it's probably gonna take ages lol
Missing Google Fiber by about 30 miles :(
Feels bad, man.

brownymasterUser_1gb dlCaps are important. 2Mb and 2MB is vastly different, and if you actually have 2Mb in this day and age I feel sorry for you.
I have 2 mb
1 gb download would be godly
Oh yeah
2MB
mega-byte not megabit
Jeez that WOULD suck

2Mb isn't that bad, anything above 1Mb works for most things
I have 3rd world internet. It took me 10 days of 24/7 downloading to download 300gb of steam games. Being able to download all those games in under 2 hours would be nice. This project probably won't spread out that much though, sadly.
Does anybody in the TF2 community has access to this service?
I've preregistered for it. They are currently only doing it in Kansas city, Mo and Kansas City, Ks proper. The problem is both of these counties are pretty shitty (as in ghetto and blue collar for the most part). But they are doing it there first for the business units and letting those people get it first. All the more rich counties around it all have to put in bids for it. The more bids, the faster it'll come down. I live maybe 10 minutes away from KCK proper and our neighborhood has already flooded prereg so we're hoping to get it soon.
The best part about this is that Google is always expanding and experimenting. So I'm hoping we'll be the testing ground for newer/faster speeds as well.
I dont know how much it'll effect ping, but I look forward to it none the less for the same price as Time Warner and still cheaper than AT&T.

I heard that at dreamhack winter you can sit in a spot where you get almost a gBit download speed aswell.
