Would it be possible to build a computer for around $300 (not including monitor) that can run TF2 at 60+ FPS with maxframes?

The only things I'd like to play are 6s and maybe a bit of HL.
Thanks in advance!

I would really suggest something around $500 - I don't really know much about extremely cheap builds.

PotatoPotato's build

That's a fine build, the only thing I'd suggest though is dropping the SSD for an HDD (Something like this), only because 120GB isn't much storage

$300 is cutting it really thin though... This is what I came up with, still ~$50 over budget, though you could cut out Windows 8.1 and save $90. I'm not sure exactly how well this build will run TF2, but it should.

Build

CPU: AMD A4-4000 3.0GHz Dual-Core Processor ($43.67 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: MSI A55M-E33 Micro ATX FM2+ Motherboard ($39.99 @ Micro Center)
Memory: Patriot Viper 3 4GB (1 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($30.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($54.98 @ OutletPC)
Case: Sentey CS1-1420 PLUS ATX Mid Tower Case ($19.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair Builder 430W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($19.99 @ Micro Center)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($89.98 @ OutletPC)
Total: $299.59

An R270 is massive massive overkill for TF2. TF2 is very CPU dependent, not GPU dependent, so I would try to put more into CPU than a video card. I'm pretty sure it's possible to even use integrated GPU and hit those FPS if it's a good CPU and you're using low dx8 settings. Are you near a microcenter?

At such a low budget the cost of an OS kills the benefit of building yourself to get around 300 bucks...so a second hand system may be something to look for.
