I don't know why but my PC cannot run anything that I play well (CS:GO, DayZ, TF2)
Am I just overestimating my hardware or could there be another issue?

Motherboard: MSi 970A-G46
CPU: AMD FX-8350 @ 4.0Ghz
GPU: EVGA GTX 760
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8GB
HDD: idk some Seagate @ 5400Hz

Could it be my harddrive affecting my fps or am I batshit and losing my mind

Harddrive won't affect FPS unless you're playing games that actively load from the disk while playing, which TF2, CSGO, and DayZ don't.

You could be throttling from heat or something else, make sure power options are set to high performance in windows. Anyhow, Vishera cores in the AMD series CPUs aren't that strong individually so for games that still aren't optimized well to use all 8 cores, you'll probably get some FPS issues, likely in TF2 especially moreso during highlander or large pubs. Even 4th gen i5 dual-cores with an equal video card can beat it out in a wide variety of games released within the past few years.

50 fps is pretty good imo :P

Check that your drivers are updated, do what m4risa said and make sure your power options aren't limiting anything, also check the temps of your CPU/GPU.

Last thing, for future reference, HDDs run in RPM, not Hz, and for a desktop hard drive 5400 is kinda slow, ideally you want to aim for ~7200 RPM, but as m4risa said, it won't affect really performance.

Your hardware is almost all better than mine and I don't have any problem running 99% of games. I'd run a full system virus scan, run malwarebytes or similar, defrag your harddrive, check your hardware temperatures (HWMonitor is a good tool), check for background programs hogging memory, update drivers, clean out your temp folders

edit: if your hdd was actually running at 5400Hz it would shake itself to pieces. But it's ok, we all figured out what you meant.

have you got evga precisionX installed? if so open it up and click the reset to default settings. Might help.

EDIT: while your at it install GeForce experience http://www.geforce.com/geforce-experience this will automatically check for drivers and gives some recommended settings that scale to you specific pc's specs (obviously you may want to fine tune after running this on a game as things like motion blur tend to get put on)

Some Cooler Master 600W PSU I think? Power settings are at Full Performance now.
i've pretty much come to the conclusion that AMD is just REALLY ass.

You should have much better performance, that cpu is more than capable of running tf2. Intel will net you higher frame rates but it's more just an overbuffer of frames for example like AMD=200 FPS Intel=250+FPS.

It's difficult to troubleshoot this because if the hardware is in good condition and plugged in correctly you should not experience this. With the information you provided it's basically guesswork as to what is actually going on. It could be Software, it could be not enough power or just power options, it could be the settings you have tf2 set to, or a shitty internet connection... Any number of things.

Same GPU model, different company. But nonetheless, same problems. I don't wanna hijack, but I would like some explanations for this as well.

My specs:
ASROCK 870 Extreme3
AMD Phenom X4 II 955 @ 3.44 GHz
ADATA Gaming Series 4 gb @ 1600 MHz
MSI GTX 760 4gb
Windows 7 64-bit

Most likely CPU bottleneck, the games you mentioned do not scale well with multiple threads, or simply can't use more than 1 or 2 threads, and your performance suffers as a result.

Hmm, that is probably the best explanation. I'm getting ass frames on Titanfall as well, and that uses Source. Oh well, won't be able to upgrade anytime soon. But thanks for that. :)

Not true at all. That cpu will still easily handle those games on one core.

it could be something more obscure. for example, the past year I was suffering through general slowness with my OS and some games. the problem was my hard drive wasn't seated properly, limiting the read/write (i assume anyway). not saying this is your problem, but to think outside the box of the typical "oh, virus/malware, cpu bottleneck" ect ect.

The reason why I asked what you are getting in that benchmark is that there are two samples from people with FX-8350's in that thread. FX-8350 @ 4.0ghz @ 87fps using dx9frames. FX-8350 @ 4.4ghz @ 107fps using dx9highframes. TF2 is heavily CPU centric so if you are getting similar results your CPU is likely performing as expected.

The best thing you can do to raise your FPS is to disable all unnecessary services in Windows.

Razer GameBooster will disable most of these for you, and re-enable them once you exit the game. Do a little reading and disable the others manually.

Disable the Steam overlay for a boost, too.

Goodluck, downpour.

Edit: wow, SSD's ftw D: Your old HD must have been full to the brim and crazy fragmented.
