We finally get no crit server options! Rejoice!

Now if only we had no crit servers.

I think that they add a ton of hats is a good thing because the people who made them have spent a lot of their free time on them. But valve really needs a system to add hats without reducing fps.

[*]Improved loading of item information panels to prevent hitches when cycling through backpack pages

I didnt realise that when you load backpack pages, there's the cool spinning tf2 logos that indicates the items being loaded

Ragorismqoskabout the escape plan nerfs: if the escape plan had always been like it is now, and suddenly you didn't take minicrits, we'd call it ridiculously OP. Honestly, as it is, it fulfils its purpose (ie pocket rollouts and idiotic melee rushes), and it's one of the weapons that has been fixed well.
And yet, they changed the Crit-a-cola from that, to only taking flat damage and not mini-crits. That's seriously all they have to do with the damn weapon, is to change the mini-crit debuff to just a flat damage taken, and then there'd be zero reason to fuck with it further

But, of course, there's a pack of mongoloids in charge of balancing the unlocks

This is so fucking true he should get a medal for it.

it's like they're trying to nerf stuff (short circuit) without actually making it less bs just so they can say "Look we nerfed it everything's okay!"

It'd be pretty cool if the short circuit would only shoot lazors and did not destroy projectiles, not sure if engineer would be the best class for such a weapon tho

With every single update I feel more and more detached to the game.

Ragorismthey never directly address what the main issue is

Isnt that what icefrog does with dota? He doesnt nerf the original intention of the item, skill or hero, even if players are struggling with it. A lot of the time he accentuates the weaknesses of a hero instead of just making the hero worse.

Using the short circuit as an example, The fire rate was increase so it can actually stand up to demospam. It was way strong, so they are making it much harder to indefinitely delete projectiles. This is how pretty much every nerf looks like in dota.

The difference is that icefrog understands a vast majority of the aspects of dota and the implications arising from changing things around. Also, dota is a game with "perfect imbalance" - the mechanics are the game, not the meta or the flow or anything. Sure, there are a few underlying concepts that shouldn't change ever, like the fact that denying exists and rosh's role in map control, but there's nothing remotely to the order of "The ENGIRE GAME revolves around one specific mechanic of this one specific hero and if it changes or gets subverted in the wrong ways the game is FUCKED" like TF2 has.

dota also makes minute changes in patches, that may not seem big at first but add up over time. there's also the factor that even "showcasing" a weapon in patch notes leads to players using it (don't know about you but i've seen more nataschas lately)

valve is just taking it slow balance-wise. and why wouldn't they? last time they went balls out with an unlock (short circuit) there was massive backlash.

RagorismThe actual issue with the Short Circuit is very apparent, but they skirt the issue by adding a negative attribute that only affects one 'playstyle', that can easily be circumvented by briefly switching weapons.

what is the actual issue? they already nerfed its offensive capabilities greatly, you chew through metal fast, faster if you're erasing projectiles. the defensive playstyle was the thing people were starting to get antsy about, because it made nest-breaking harder, so they addressed it. in the seconds it takes to switch weapons and gain back metal that could mean two stickies at your feet. tf2 is a game of seconds so this impacts way more than is apparent from looking at patch notes

valve's method of balancing weapons is to give large buffs to perennially underused weapons, see what happens, and then change things further or keep them the same. that's what they've been doing since the great summer rebalance, and i don't think there is any reason that it is a bad thing. seriously, i'm pretty sure they just look at what percentage of players have X weapon equipped and then give that weapon a boost, or, in some cases, a nerf.

the consensus here seems to be that valve has no idea what they are doing with tf2 balance, but sending them an angry email about what we think of tf2 isn't going to change their minds or affect their decision at all. especially in a world where all of the weapons we are talking about are banned in our leagues. i think that part of the way they balance is through looking at how the players use the buffed/nerfed weapon, and when your only metrics come from 24/7 shitfest pubs you probably aren't going to get the greatest feedback.

it doesn't really affect league play (i don't know how ugc deals with mid-season weapon changes) and pubs don't matter enough to argue about weapon balance over. and besides, the real issue with the short circuit wasn't that it was necessarily bad - it just Wasn't The Wrangler.

they balance classes in the same way. ooh look no one plays heavy cause its fucking boring lets keep buffing him. so what you end up with is the least fun class being the most op and the game is a piece of shit. bad logic is bad.
