Ping problems at random intervals

Hey tftv,

So for about four months now I've been having these random ping problems where my ping to nearly all servers will shoot up to 200 for no reason during a certain period of time (about an hour). I used to think it was a problem with how many people were connected to my tower but seeing as it's happening right now (10 am) I sincerely doubt that's the problem. I'm pretty sure it has a problem to do with my routing but my ISP said there's nothing they can do about it. Some tracerts I've taken are below.

http://puu.sh/5SODe.png (chi server)
http://puu.sh/5SOHH.png (google)
http://puu.sh/5SOPJ.png (diff chi server)
http://puu.sh/5SOT2.png (visual traceroute showing my internet getting rerouted to europe (probably not actually happening))
http://puu.sh/5SOUE.png (my server browser, none of the 280+ pings actually show up on a traceroute)

For some reason, my ping in TF2 is a lot worse than the tracerts show. (not a tf2 issue-happens in QL as well)

I haven't been able to nail down where the problem server is considering my routing is swapped at least every two weeks and this problem still persists. My ISP insists it's out of their network as well so they have no power to do anything about it.

Any ideas? This is getting a bit ridiculous.

Hey - I had this recent problem.

Basically I brought my desktop and set it up downstairs for a cast, and then brought it upstairs again. After I brought it back up, my pings were shooting up.. it was insane. I had never had it happen before. It'd shoot from like 50 or something to 500+. No amount of adjusting did shit.

It turned out to be malware. I was really surprised. What happened is for Blizzard support, they have a popup for their live chat so instead of disabling popups I accidentally disabled addons - including ad-block. One fucking night disabling ad-block and I get malware that fucks my Internet.

Anyway I cleaned it out with Malwarebytes and it ruled. The malware was called BetterSurf. I'm fine now.

Malware might be the cause! Even if you're solid as fuck and use virus scanners always. It might not, but worth a try.

Yeah, I've got malwarebytes too. I blanked my hard drive during this four month span so I doubt it could be anything software-related.
