integrated hd graphics 4000 fps?

Yo, I'm getting a new computer finally and i don't know if i can afford a video card right away. In case i can't this friday (yea i know i'm scum for getting sales on black friday), does anyone know how well the i5-3570k's hd graphics 4000 can run tf2(chris' highframes ofc)? I know the game is very cpu-intensive so i'm expecting good fps but i'm unsure of how much effect it will have if i have a shitty gpu.

also i forgot to mention i'm using my old monitor so res will be 1280 x 960 so that probably plays a large part in this as well.

Will run fine, you shouldn't dip under 120fps in 6v6 or have trouble maintaining a playable FPS in HL/Pubs

don't slack on RAM speed, it has a significant effect on fps when using integrated graphics. At least 1866 Mhz, recommend 2133+

bandwidth is significantly more important than cas latency in this scenario

It's only temporary, fast ram is useless once he gets a dedicated GPU and is significant more expensive than 1333/1600mhz ram. That being said, if you can get an 1866-2400mhz ram kit for only a few dollars more than 1333/1600mhz ram, it will make your intergrated graphics pick up the slack a bit more until you get your GPU.

well i already have 1333mhz ram from a friend (he sold me 8 gigs for 20) so i can't afford getting 1866+ even if i were to do that, i'd rather use the money in getting a gpu. Thank you though for the responses I never knew ram mattered more for integrated graphics :o

It's because GPUs use DDR5, which is much faster than DDR3, which is what your system uses. When using intergrated graphics, your intergrated graphics have to use your system memory.

theres a large difference between mobile and desktop cpu's (especially for tf2) and your 'playable' fps is different than others.

Laptop CPUs suck unless you use a cooling mat, they throttle themselves since laptops get hot.

For the intention of gaming I would never recommend integrated graphics. You may be able to tweak things to make it playable... But it's a hit and miss kind of scenario.

I actually had to play on a 3570k while a video card was in an RMA process. I played on it for about 10 days. It was fine for 6v6 play at 120+ fps, but any time a pyro was 20 feet away or closer, fps would dip to about 5.

Granted, this was about a year ago and I'm sure it'll run worse now.

nvm i understand. Tf2 updates do increase the load on both the cpu and gpu as time goes on (fucking hats)

had to rma my card not too long ago and was using onboard. didn't dip under 120 and i have ivy bridge as well.

You can play TF2 pretty well on integrated cards since the game is 99% CPU based. The only problems you will encounter is Pyro flames if you have shaders set to High (or in DX9) and Spy uncloaking if you have a weaker CPU than the i5. Otherwise you can play and get good FPS on any modern integrated card assuming your CPU is a good one.

Other non-source engine games though will be extremely hit or miss (obviously).

Not quite, graphics cards use GDDR5 (not DDR5, that won't be around for probably another 5-10 years) which is a variant of DDR3 with higher latency but insane bandwidth which is suitable for storing the kind of data GPUs need.
