ThePretenderMR_SLINdefyMR_SLINwill there be an ELO system?
mge is bad enough we don't need that disease to spread

I just think it would be cool to have ranked Pugs, especially in a system with no barriers to entry. It could help differentiate the system from TF2 Lobby and encourage people to put more effort into the games (rather than off-classing, etc.).

It would encourage people to play as gay as possible to increase their ELO (look at mge as defy said). What's stopping them from running full-time heavy? That should give you a pretty good overall K:AD and boost your ELO.

in my mind, offclassing would be regulated as it is in irc pug channels to prevent this

also, if there's an elo system, other players could rate other users down, like the one who played heavy. after a certain threshold for -reps it could disqualify the game stats toward their actual stats maybe?

Sure if that is where the metagame is going. If they did that in the current metagame and the players were trying hard enough to focus fire, it isn't tough to overcome a heavy. Maybe it is for lower level players, but if they can't beat a heavy then they deserve to lose and have a lower ELO as a result. It should work itself out naturally.

I think it would also be valuable to keep a separate ELO for each class for each player if possible. For example, I might be a really good soldier but I'm an awful demoman, etc. That would encourage people to explore the different classes. Otherwise they might not be so adventurous and might only play their main class 24/7 to maintain ELO.

You might also have an ELO penalty for leaving a game early, but if a person leaves and you can't find a sub then it is ok to leave the game with no penalty. These are all things that I'm sure you have thought about yourself but I just want to bring it up.

Aoshimaalfa: are you going to be extending this to other tf2 communities than NA?

Europe has a big enough tf2 population that it'd probably be nice.

And since I'm Australian, I've got to ask that you see if you can hook the Ozfortress folks up, if only because the irc pug system is kind of terrible.

We are looking to expand to the EU scene in the future, but promoting and improving our services in the NA scene takes priority right now.

Why should k/d affect Elo? The only sure fire way of knowing someone is good is by judging how often they win against the skill level of their opponents. If someone is winning games as heavy vs. IM players, I think they deserve their position.

TF2.gg is now working again (hopefully! I'll need a full 12 or 18 players to test it out). Feel free to use it for scrims.

Awesome work! Just a note: You're not serving the minified versions of angular.js and socket.io. I don't know if that's intentional, but the human-readable versions are pretty big.

Any chance of implementing an actual PUG feature as well?

Something similar to pug.na, but with a user interface? Would be cool.

Not really something you can fix, but what originally pushed me away from tf2lobby was the players. I can't stand when people just fuck around when I'm trying to play well and get better.

I played the tf2center beta this weekend and I'm probably not gonna play there again, since in both lobbies I tried, people were messing around.

I will play here if it's more like pugs and less like lobbies.

I understand people wanna have fun. I wanna get better and losing when no one is doing what they're supposed to do is annoying.

Exactly. This is the point behind TF2.gg - it's made by competitive players for competitive players. Our point is not to replace TF2lobby, but to provide a new place where people more serious about competitive can actually get better.

I don't see how this or tf2center is any different from tf2lobby if they have no repercussions for dicking around.

Until these sites have some sort of rep for players, or a ranking system they are going to be pretty much the same.

Can I try to break the site since it's still a WIP?

I mean I can anyways, but I think it's nice to test out the robustness of sites like this.

I would really like to get a pug going to try out the system.

https://tf2.gg/lobby/unnumbered-viewpoint

You have to be logged in to view lobbies by the way, if you couldn't see any before that's why.

This might be stupid, but for an individual ELO, maybe some way of measuring a player's damage per death countered by how many heals they receive? Wouldn't be perfect, but as a roamer I know that my KA:D is usually going to look bad at the end of the day, but if I was near the bottom in heals received and I did around 200 damage per death, I probably had an at least decent night.

Might be a dumb suggestion, but just looking for something that would be fair to the classes that aren't built for impressive stat lines.

Should be measured by win/loss and nothing else. Doesn't matter what you do to get the win.

i don't think it's fair to base an individual's ranking on a team's performance. as an example of this, look at cs:go.

me, rainy, and axiomatic will often play that together with a few others we find randomly to fill in the gaps. I suck at it and so does rainy, but axio is just a naturally good shot at whatever game he picks up. Often times at the end of a match we'll win and axio will be 48-10 and the rest of us with negative k/d, but because we got carried by a better player our win/loss ratio gets inflated. half our buy strategies include figuring out who can afford an awp, giving it to axio, and then hoping he can ace their team because none of us can aim

obviously it's different for tf2. due to how the game is, it is a lot harder for a single player to carry a team as heavily, but i still don't think that that i should have any other rank than private just because i get carried.

Unless you get carried to victory in almost every game you play, you will reach a point where you bring your team down enough to lose and you start losing more often then not. The system works if the number of games is high enough (and if it isn't, that means you aren't queuing so it doesn't matter).

I understand that you plan to ad these features, but people are going to get bad first impressions of the site until you add them. I know a ranking system is probably pretty hard to do, but a +/-rep system can't be that hard. I would keep the site offline until you have that.

I do get that you wanted to test out the fundamental features so I guess it's fine for now.

There really is no other option though joejoe347. The only other channel that uses statistics to balance teams is #TF2Mix on Gamesurge. The channel alternates between a captaining round, where captains choose teams, and an automatic pick round where the first 12 players to add up get to play. In the automatic pick round it balances teams using Win/Loss ratios. It's the fairest way to do it.
