I just got a CRT that says it can go up to 160hz, but in my graphics settings, the highest it will go is 100. Is this a limitation of my graphics card and is there any way I can make it go up to 160?

i used to have a CRT, and it would give the option of a higher refresh rate when i lowered the resolution. which probably isn't the case with all crt's but you can try that

I have my resolution set to 800x600. When i go into the advanced settings, lowering it more doesn't let me move it higher. I assume it's because the CRT can't actually go to 160?

Try forcing a custom resolution/refresh rate in your video card drivers. It's what I had to do to get 32 bit color and 120hz at the same time on my monitor.

vertical refresh rate is different than horizontal refresh rate

#6: scanlines etc

eventually though the whole monitor has to be swapped overall and this is what refresh rate generally refers to

Limitation of the technology itself. It's a CRT, by nature they refresh by deflecting electrons into the screen, probably one by one, so if you have more pixels to cover, there's a lower treshold to the refresh rate since it has to cover a larger pixel area.

1. Post monitor name + model number
2. Post graphics card make + model number
3. Post OS

Asking for help without any of the above is a waste of time.

If your CRT manual says it can do 160hz at a certain resolution and said resolution/refresh rate doesn't show up by default, create a custom setting in Nvidia/AMD control panel with said details.

It needs more power. Take the cover off and plug more wires into the back of the vacuum tube
