So I'm rather colorblind, which doesn't really bother me, except when I play TF2. From afar, it's hard for me to tell which players belong to which team. Is there any way that I can enable like a display config that helps? I have colorblind mode on, and it's not much better.

iirc, another colorblind player, Monochromatic Bunny tried to get a petition out to Valve in order to support a true colorblind mode in tf2. sadly, i don't think it got anywhere though.

I saw something in the steam workshop where it displays the team logo overhead, but I don't know how to implement something like that, or if it can even be done.

Even if it could be done, in terms of competitive play, if playing in ESEA or servers with sv_pure 2 (or whatever the command is) wouldn't that disable it?

I would talk to Monochromatic Bunny. I'm pretty sure he has certain skins enabled that make everyone on one team wear pretty much black and on the other team they'd be gray. The problem is this doesn't work on sv_pure servers so you can't enable it in comp :| But for your basic pubbing I'm sure it helps a lot. I wish I could get the skin for you but I'll just msg Mono to add you. I'm sure he can help.

Colorblind player here. I have similar problems to you actually. The only thing I've ever done that's drastically helped me (My problems are distinguishing colors from each other and processing what colors I see) was installing Quake textures. They're not sv_pure 1 friendly though, so you have to take that into account.

If you're using an Nvidia card, you can go to the Nvidia control panel, video > adjust video color settings.

You can change the hue, saturation, and balance of the picture to hopefully make it better.

Some what related I guess. But it made me take a color blind test and it tells me that I have the most common case of color blindness and that I'm not special ;(

I'm not colorblind, but I do have trouble telling teams apart from a distance. I just shoot them once and if I hear a hitsound then I know their an enemy. I realize that this probably isn't very practical for some one who really is colorblind, but It helps for me.

I don't think it's something to pity. Ellie_Goulding said it doesn't bother them, and many people live normal lives with it. They might do things differently and have warranted complaints about TF2's colorblind mode, but yeah. Monochromatic Bunny said it something like, he doesn't know any different, so what is there to miss?

I have that red-green partial colorblindness that 10% of males have. It doesn't bother me too much but takes me a second to notice someone's team sometimes in shadows or when a red player is in tall grass.

If anyone here is red-blue color blind these make the blu team players, payload cart, intelligence, particles and certain hud elements green instead.

It's a minor nuisance at most. The only time I really remember I'm colorblind is when I play TF2 and I shoot at my team.

I was wondering, wouldn't it be easy for valve just to add over head text effect on players, just like the healing indicator or jarate overhead?

I have the same problem and I tend to just shoot in that direction, if I don't see a dmg# or hitsound I assume they are probably on my team and that's why they aren't shooting back.

This is mostly true. I don't even think about it other than when playing games that require me to see certain things. I would not have made a fantastic warrior in WW2... I can't tell blue from gray in most cases.

There are a few instances in real life where it is a huge issue...namely electrical wires and traffic lights. Orange and red lights are impossible to tell apart, and green isn't far behind. If all traffic lights were the same, it'd be easy enough, but there are many times where I have to just assume it's red and go by the traffic surrounding me. I do get honked at frequently in smaller cities when people can't go around me when I stop at greens... :|

Moose was telling me about some new lights that are just one light that changes colors instead of 3 separate lights. Whoever designed that is an idiot and I hope they don't become mainstream.

In TF2, I primarily just look at what someone's doing to determine whether they're friendly or not. If playing demo, I detonate traps on teammates waaaay too much. There are certain hat effects that make it virtually impossible for me to tell whether a person is a teammate or not and other effects seem to make people essentially invisible to me. It's bizarre, and it's just an effect caused by the hat stealing my focus, but it's unavoidable and reeeeeeeallllllly annoying.

I don't think so, these kinds of textures are used in non vac bannable wallhacks in reg sv's
