Hey all, I'm x3m157. I've been playing casual TF2 for a year or so (almost 200 hours). I am interested in getting into competitive play, and I was wondering if you could give me some tips/things to do to get started in the competitive scene.

Thanks for any help you could give!

If this isn't the proper place to post something like this please let me know.

stay away from mge
play dm instead
play the 3 classes they allow
play pugs at #tf2mix get a grasp on how some things work
make friends
make teams with friends and your tf2 competitive experience will start there.

no.

check out newbie mixes first: http://steamcommunity.com/groups/na6v6newbiemix - they happen on saturday evenings, i believe. your captain will be an experienced player who can further assist you.

on another note, watching the tf.tv (http://www.youtube.com/user/TeamFortressTV) and sal's (http://www.youtube.com/user/Fatmop) casts helped me out immensely.

Newbie Mixes are where its at for new players getting into competitive. DM and MGE both have their advantages DM is better in general but MGE can be useful for at least getting use to your sensitivity and all that. Also I would make the name less numbered but that is also coming from a guy who has one of the most common names in any game so take that bit of advice with a grain of salt.

Also if you don't want half of the community to be predisposed to not take you seriously, replace the numbers in your name with letters. It's silly to point out, but to be honest it's annoying to have to try and think of how you pronounce stuff like that.

Well in MGE typically it turns into a "Jump at me bro" stalemate with the winner having the higher ground, I personally would steer away from MGE and do pugs and SoapDM instead.
