No one can tell you what to main, just pick what feels the best and what you enjoy most. Also, if you start playing a lot you may end up changing in the future so just pick what you love the most for now.

why is there always class discrimination on every thread that involves opinions on classes ? wtf like seriously they're all classes stop judging them unless they're heavy god damn.

@op you should play the class that you are inspired to do best with. I first got into competitive near January of last year i think and when i saw soldier's play competitive i fell in love with the class so i mained it. (also because you can get airshots.) Also, maybe you want to play the class your rolemodel plays?

Also just see what teams need and try that as your first main (obviously not medic since you don't seem interested). That's exactly what I did when I joined my first tf2 team. The team needed a spy/scout so I mained scout. When the team decided that I was a better demo than their demo or he didn't play demo I switched to demo. I found that I enjoyed demo quite a lot more. The only way you can tell what class fits you is by playing the class on teams and seeing if you feel comfortable and enjoy that class.

I'd say its probably more helpful to watch streams of other players playing their mains than to pug and lobby to find which you prefer, the lobby and pug environment drastically changes the role of the class. Everytime you play a pug or lobby you have to rediscover your team and spend energy getting to know them, so certain aspects of classes can be over emphasized, such as who to prioritize as medic for who you get on the pug(Which can devolve into following one guy around the entire game at the expense of the other players), or DM for most other classes. I don't feel like this gives you an accurate representation of the classes, and the roles they play.

I would watch some high level streams or vods, and see which style you would like to embody.
