Normal I record at 60 fps, slowmo I record at 240 or 360 fps. Smooths are the same way.

They are frame blended, however. I use srcrecord2 and adjust the blendrate to 1200 (the fps lawena records at) divided by the target framerate.

If you're doing extreme slowmo, you should obtain a third party plugin such as twixtor to help save on hard drive space.

It depends how much you're slowing down the clip. I normally render regular clips at 120-240 fps, regardless of whether I'm using slowmotion or not. 120 frames as opposed to 60 looks smoother (at least from what I can see), and 240 is plenty for slowmo. Smooths I always record at at least 480, and often 960 depending on how few ticks there were.

maybe this is overkill but I find it works for me and gives a smooth look.

the higher the framerate, the higher quality the temporal motion blur is that some video editing softwares use to pull down video FPS

Unless you barely have any room on your HDD, I recommend only recording at 480 or higher. It's basically the middle value between "too low to do stuff like slow motion" and "too high to bother".

480 is the FPS you'll want to use (or higher, but like I said above...) to be able to have smooth as fuck slow motion.

There's really no reason to use anything lower than 480 other than if you don't have the room. "Time" shouldn't really be an issue, considering if you're making a video that doesn't look like 90% of sheep's or kukkye's videos, you're going to be taking some time anyway. Might as well take a little bit more for a better looking video.

#6 You're right, it does depend, except only sort of. Most slow motion put into clips is pretty slow. I'd say around 60% - 95% slower. Using velocity is the only way you should be doing slow motion, by the way. Ctrl + dragging is terrible and makes it look ugly.

If you're going to slow it down by anywhere between 65% and 99% (not sure what the exact percentage would be for the 9X), 480 FPS is a must.

You could probably use SrcDemo2 just for frame conversion if you wanted to keep using Vegas' frame blending(which looks far better IMO). Just set the blendrate to 1 and framerate to 480. That would allow you to get the benefit of .png files which take up significantly less space.

(Or you could live with SrcDemo2's frame blending and give yourself 30/60 FPS png sequences to work off of)

I had tried recording everything @450, and it looked like shit when i slowed it down. So would you say 60% for 480?

literally every video from 2012/2013 that I've made with slow motion I've done at 480 FPS. You're using velocity for slow motion, right? Like I said, don't ctrl + drag the clips. That will make it look like shit.

There's nothing wrong with using this method, it allows you do slow down audio too which the velocity bar will not allow. The only limitation is the whole clip must be at one constant speed but I'm not sure why you're saying not to use this.

i have this new problem. With the new Lawena, its recording in TGAs, not PNGs. Also, it literally for a maybe 4sec in game time, it takes up about 3GB of computer space, which I dont have alot of. I used to be able to record clips that were easily maybe 30-60s long.

How big is your HDD? 3GB isn't that much at all.

Its split mac/PC, but on average, I have about 5-7 GB free
