Just think of it as another scrim on a shitty server, that counts for slightly more than just your ego.

Alternatively, continue reminding yourself that the other team is shit regardless of whether or not they are, seems to work for everyone in this game.

when i first started comp tf2 with highlander, i was super nervous and a little shaky, so I got in the habit of taking a vitamin B12 pill before every match or scrim
eventually i stopped because I figured it was probably a placebo, and now i'm usually fine

just remember, the first rollout is the hardest

Just stay calm, take deep breaths if needed. You don't need to be amazingly OMFGEPIC your first game, but you do need to have fun. Relax and enjoying playing the first game with your team this season. Good luck!

Last season was the first time since season 5 i fully started and played every game. The first game i was a nervous wreck and did terrible, my hands were actually shaking in pregame. I went back and rewatched my demo and literally picked apart everything i know i did wrong. I felt a lot better realizing i made stupid mistakes and pinpointing them so they didn't happen again. 2nd match, still nervous, but i had a game plan and did much better. Like anything, it's more mental than you think. Few people can just go into something balls out and do good (and we're not just talking about video games).

Biggest thing to remember - everyone has played bad at some point or another. It happens to everyone - it's inevitable. It's all about what you do to improve that will make you successful or not.

I've never really been nervous playing tf2. maybe my very first UGC match just because i was unfamiliar with the people i was playing with. when i'm nervous about a game irl, it helps not to consider mistakes. i don't think about "what if i miss a ball" "what if i get beamed" etc. i just go out there confident. same thing can be said for baseball and tf2, just be confident and do what you have been practicing.

I know this sounds weird, but try washing your hands. Feeling the warm water run over my fingers helped me relax and not shake as much. I eventually got over being nervous, but it still helps to do that.

So I finally had my first match on process. All in all I think I did pretty well. I read through this thread a few times before the match and it helped me a lot. I ended up wearing my panda hat and roasting my head off but it was worth it. Thanks to everyone for posting advice and similar experiences.

You had the most damage and frags in the game! I don't think many people can say that about their first match.
