TF2 adblock no longer working?

Just a few minutes ago, I loaded tf2 and joined a pub, and actually jumped in my seat from the excruciating volume of a stupid pinion ad.

I've had the source adblock (protect.cfg) for a while now and it's always worked great.

Did the full steampipe update break this or is my protect.cfg suddenly not executing or something weird?

Just in case anyone doesn't know what I'm talking about, you can find the adblock here https://github.com/CasualX/SourceProtect

I took it out a couple weeks ago because it stopped working. I just figured the pinion people fixed it so you can't dodge it that way anymore; which frankly fucking sucks.

add some echo and text into protect.cfg so you know that it has been exec'd.

Is the file in /custom/ ?

Perhaps you could try moving it into the /tf/cfg/ folder or if the protect.cfg is being exec'd in autoexe change the line to "../custom/[foldername]/protect.cfg".

I was playing on Skial last night and it still worked.

Did you add this to your hosts file?

127.0.0.1 motd.pinion.gg

I believe it's this one server in particular that is the culprit

67.219.107.6:27015

Thanks to my boy jjp, I modified my windows hosts file to block pinion IP's.

After doing this, I no longer got the ad when joining the server

I did however have to sit and wait ~20 seconds for the motd to close, so it still won't block it fully.

tl;dr the adblock still works for me, it's just this particular server is extra tricky about forcing their ads.
