The first time ETF2L's top division culminated in a final was season 3 with Ubersexuals beating TCM, in a hotly contested match watched live by more than 700 people. For the time being however this remained an isolated occurrence, the result of a system which required teams, level on points at the end of the season to play a tiebreaker match to decide their final standings. It wasn’t until season 8 that a regular playoff phase was introduced alongside the new premiership division. The first premiership final pitted season 7’s champion Epsilon against German squad Blight, with Epsi taking the game in two maps. Since that game on 24 of January 2011 more than 15 years have passed, and 46 Premiership finals have been played, featuring 175 players from 27 countries.

A little under 70% of all finalists hail from just five nations; the UK, France, Sweden, Germany, Finland, with each producing more than ten players.
