Team Fortress 2
- Added "Only allow map files" to the possible selections in the download filter option for clients *
- Fixed a client crash related to the material system
- Fixed Diamond/Carbonado Botkiller weapons using incorrect team materials for the arms
- Fixed a vphysics regression where some items would travel farther than they should
- Improved performance and stability for the Linux version
- Removed range restrictions from viewmodel_fov_demo *
- Updated the Ap-Sap so it can be gift-wrapped and have custom names/descriptions applied to it

*looks like they have taken parts of the openPlugin they are Okay with.

Looks like Metamod is broken for linux servers, have a great day!

The viewmodel_fov_demo command only affects viewmodels within demos. That might sound obvious but I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the FOV change ability OpenPlugin gives you. If I'm wrong, then please correct me.

Before this update, you could increase your viewmodel_fov_demo only so much, but now it's unlimited as it is outside of demos.

Yeah, but both the unrestricted viewmodel_fov_demo and "only allow map files" were a part of OpenPlugin

And you guys are correct. I wasn't aware this was a feature. Thanks for the heads up.

In a way, it's cool that this has actually had any effect and changed anything.

In another way it sucks major balls that this is the only effect it had.

Curious how well the map download restriction will work with VPK's (steampipe anyone?). Can't I as a server admin make a malicious VPK that includes a map and some furry porn for the hud? (I know l4d2 allows hud modifications via vpk files)

I'd prefer the transparent viewmodels. That was always something I was jealous of people who used OpenPlugin.

Maybe this is a sign that they will start integrating the features that they deem 'safe' into the game, such as the transparent models and mat_picmip stuff. Maybe even increasing the fov_desired to 110.

From what I heard, servers do not serve VPKs. Custom maps likely stay loose as they have been all along.

Also, Metamod: Source is broken on Linux servers. This means mods like MGEMod on those servers are not working at the moment, so please try not to harass your server OPs about it as there's nothing we can do until a new MM:S build is compiled.

This is awesome, valve is not blind to the competitive community, they KNOW we exist :D

Now all it takes is a bit more effort into it, come on, transparent viewmodels / automatic demo recording / ingame lobby matchmaking, would be so cool and the entire community (not only competitive) would benefit from it

This is honestly one of the best changes Valve has made in some time.

Servers can not serve VPK content to clients. The VPK structure only exists for Valve content.

Doubt it, mat_picmip used to be uncapped, Valve added the cap 3-4 years ago because the cvar (according to Valve) caused "significant performance and instability issues" and they were having to help support people using it who were having the game crash non-stop cause of it and what not.

people have been using it with openplugin without issues, no reason for them to not uncap it these days.

I don't think the people who used Open Plugin are your average TF2 user though.

It'd probably work better if they uncapped it but also added those specific settings as choices in the Video options menu, probably with a warning if you set it higher than the current maximum that way they're more covered if anything happens on people's awful PCs.

Re-update your Linux servers. It will fix the plugin loading issue (such as for Metamod and SizzlingStats).

I think having a separate flat texture quality setting would be the safest way for valve to do the same thing as the mat_picmip unlocking for most of us.

BLoodSireso incredible, but I believe this and fov_desired will never be unrestricted because people would cry "but spies..." all the way to the submit complaint button

probably because it's a legitimate issue and ruining other people's preferred game styles to improve ours would be quite selfish.
