r_shadows toggle

im trying to make a bindtoggle that toggles shadows on/off and shows them like this, but when i put the commands required to do so in my autoexec (r_shadowmaxrendered 1024;r_shadowrendertotexture 1; r_shadows 1) my game crashes when i try load into a map, preloading also just crashes it off launch
(im on dx80)
